There are times in a videogame generation’s cycle where a wave of games comes rushing out to the masses, encompassing a gamer’s psyche and completely hijacking any backlogs of games to be left un-played.  This month has truly been no exception to that rule.  With the amount of blockbusters coming out of the woodwork, it’s almost been impossible to keep up.  One such blockbuster poised to make a splash is Ubisoft Montreal’s Assassin’s Creed.

Assassin’s Creed has been held as many to be one of the more important titles, citing the wide open landscapes, sprawling cities and interaction with both non-playable characters (NPCs) and story characters alike.  The freedom to take an assassination attempt any way the player sees fit was one of the main draws that Ubisoft Montreal and producer Jade Raymond have used to bring the hype behind the title to a feverish pitch.

It Begins…

The story is the one thing of Assassin’s Creed that was mostly a mystery.  That is, until actress Kristen Bell, who lends her voice to the game, let the cat out of the bag that there was a futuristic tone.  After starting a new game, the “twist” that everyone was mad at Ms. Bell for telling was given within the first three minutes of the game.

It turns out that the game is focused not just on the medieval assassin Altaïr, but also a present day bartender named Desmond.  Apparently Desmond is part of a long family lineage of assassins that dates back to the Third Crusades; enter Altaïr.

Altaïr is a member of the Hashshashin clan, known historically as one of the first groups of assassins.  Altaïr’s mission takes place during the year 1191 in what is now around the Israeli/Syrian section of the Middle East.  The Third Crusades have erupted and after disgracing his clan, Altaïr is faced with the task of killing nine men responsible for bringing and prolonging the Crusades in the Holy Land.  Ubisoft was quick to mention that the targets are names of real figures during those times, although not all of them were victims of assassinations.

The game goes back and forth between those two time periods with the most time being spent in Altaïr’s time.

I dont see why people thought it was that bad, it was a fun game and gave you alot of freedom to do what you wanted, you dont have to rush yourself into doing the missions go poon some faces...although i think it would have been better if they made something for xbox live with the game their are alot of cool stuff they could have done with it...

Game was great but it was a bit lacking in re playability IMO. Especially since you unlock weapons and the story goes on. Also i like how master assassin Altair can't swim. However, i still had a great time playing.
