Still not tired of World War II games? Wish you were on the battlefield kicking Nazi ass and experiencing the great patriotic war? Then check out Medal of Honor.
Publisher: Electronic Arts Medal of Honor is back and ready to kick more Nazi ass in this 11th installment of the series. The story follows paratrooper PFC Boyd Travers of the 82nd who later joins the 17th airborne division. The game takes place in the European Theater, which happened between Septembers of 1939 and May of 1945. Besides learning about the Allied and Axis Powers, the war, and how it shaped the current world, you are part of the action. Whatever you do depends on our future. Don’t mess this one up. The main feature of the game is the paratroop jump. Every mission the player along with his squad jumps out of a C-47. After jumping, you can choose which part of the map you want to land on, but be careful if you land in front of the enemy; they will be less likely to give you a ‘get out of enemy territory’ free card. Plus, if that’s not the worst thing, it takes time to regain your breath when you land. One thing I recognized is the health regeneration system. It looks similar to the one used in Pariah. In both games the health status bar is split into four quarters. If the whole quarter of health is gone, then you’re need to retrieve a health pack to fill it up, though if the quarter is not fully gone it will slowly refill, that is if the player finds cover and rests for a few minutes. Weapons are a big attribute to the game. I mean without weapons there would be no game right? Airborne’s weapon system lets you upgrade as you go along. Thus when awarded with the add-ons to whatever weapon the player is using at the time they will get better and better at using it. For example, you could receive either “Marksman” or “sniper” for whatever numbers of kills you have using a sniper riffle and with that comes upgrades. Headshots in Airborne is very complex due to certain weapons inaccuracies. Though when a headshot is performed a message appears letting you know how many player reward points you have. If you picked up another weapon of the same type that you dropped you’ll still retain the same upgrades. Ok, so we have weapons, free-roam, a great story, but the question is: is there online mode? Of course! Users can be either the allies or axis on six multiplayer maps. Three of the maps are from a previous Medal of Honor title, Allied Assault. There’s basically “airborne teammatch” where the Axis must fight against the allies who are Para trooping from the sky. Next is “regular teammatch” in which the allies respawn on the ground when they die instead of jumping from a C-47. The third gametype is mission based where players must capture the three flags, almost similar to the main gamemode of Battlefield 2. The center flag requires two soldiers to be near it in order to retrieve it; basically, the team who has it the longest wins. This game is dubbed worthy even though there has been a lot of WWII games that has came out as of late. If you like action packed war movies then go pick this one up for the PlayStation 3 on November 19th. Trust me. You wont be disappointed. |
