Microsoft Xbox 360: Good Comics, Bad Games

Superman Returns
Superman, Superman, Superman.  What kind of curse has fallen upon the Kryptonian with a penchant for our Sun that has doomed him to so many horrible games?  Since 1979, there have been Superman videogames in production, with the most notorious on the list being Superman 64.  Released as a tie-in for the movie, Superman Returns looked to be a welcome change from the string of bad games but it seemed to have fallen short, getting abysmal review scores.

Afraid of heights?
When it comes to the fighting system for this title, one word comes to mind: boring.  Superman's fighting, while using regular button combinations to get some cool attacks going, doesn't have the weight behind it.  You'd think that the Man of Steel was a girlie man with the seemingly lack of strength that his attacks have.  What would normally look like an Earth-shattering blow to the face comes across like a regular boxer punching that 50 foot tall robot.

Much like Spiderman, there really is only one selling point in Superman Returns... the flying.  It's fun to watch the city zip past you as Superman breaks the speed of sound and all you can hear is the wind rushing past and the flapping of the cape.  Yet unlike Spiderman, this feature doesn't have the legs like web-slinging through Manhattan does.

Batman Begins
Much like Superman, videogame adaptations haven't been very kind to Batman.  Over the years games pitting Batman against the evils of Gotham city have been pretty lackluster at best.

The problem with Batman Begins is that they try to make it seem like Batman is the new Sam Fisher.  Although that's good for the character because he works in the shadows, but it just isn't executed well enough.  The fighting is a little janky and the character animations look to be a little repetitious.  Not to mention that Batman suddenly has the ability to break the laws of gravity and physics with a double jump.  With one of the cool things about Batman being that he is an average (albeit ripped and rich) Joe that's taking his own unique bite out of crime, it's a little odd that he can suddenly do this.
