Microsoft Xbox 360: 360 Price Drop In Wal-Mart, Toys 'R' Us

Gamers will rejoice when they hear the news that the XBox 360 is officially having it's price cut in Wal-Marts and Toys 'R' Us' across the nation.

By August 12th there will be a price drop of $50 on the advertised XBox 360 Premium model which brings total price to $349. Should this also apply to core models, it will bring the price to $249 which should compete with the Nintendo Wii.

Coming with this price drop should be a number of financial analyzers trying to figure out WHY Microsoft did it. We should hear more by the end of the week if anything.

It amazing you guys on the fourm will call it and like a week later it happens i love you. Someone called the price drop for the ps3 and 3 days later it happened. Someone posted last week it would drop for 360 and it did. Good investigating guys.

Thanks for the positive remarks. The 360 price drop is a great move for Microsoft, and I think now is the right time. Madden and Halo 3 will be huge for the console, and getting a 360 for half the money of a PS3 makes a big difference for the many gamers who buy a console for sports games. Also, it's much easier to justify buying a 360 for Halo 3 when it's $50 cheaper.

lol sometimes it just seems reasonable for some companies to pull these moves, and just before this holiday season is a perfect time :-)

So Sony has a 17% price-cut on a newly discontinued model...

And then Microsoft also has a 17% price-cut on a newly discontinued model.

I don't really see what there is for "financial analyzers" to bother with here. It all seems pretty obvious and straight-forward to me. Very predictable (and in fact... I did, didn't I).

should be obvious why they did this, there are a ton of amazing games coming out in the last quarter of 2007, it will sell a lot of consoles.

with this new price cut they're going to have to sell 114 xbox ($350) compared to only 100 ($400) for a $40,000 profit. Is a $50 price cut going to do that?
