CPL Summer Gears Up for War

The CPL is pleased to announce the addition of yet another tournament to the Summer 2007 CPL Championships, which will take place Thursday, August 30th to Sunday, September 2nd, 2007 (Labor Day Weekend) at the Hilton Anatole, in Dallas Texas.

The new tournament will be a $10,000 (4 versus 4) Gears of War tournament on the Xbox 360, organized by the Cyberathlete Amateur League and the Video Gamers League.

The Gears of War cash prize distribution will be:

    1st - $4,000
    2nd - $3,000
    3rd - $2,000
    4th - $1,000

Launched March 6, 2001, the Cyberathlete Amateur League (CAL), is the largest full-season online video gaming league in the USA, with 600,000 registered members and year-round online tournaments.

About VGL

The Video Gamers League (VGL) founded by Jeff Gross is the first gaming league for console players. The first VGL event was held November 20, 1999.

Also, team registration is now open for an online CPL Gears of War: Execution tournament that will effect CPL seeds (the $5k Execution Season 1 will also be considered in CPL seeding). This tournament is open to anyone and is free of charge.

sounds awesome :-) was orginally going to be a smaller tournament, now they decided to hold a larger tournament considering how popular this game is getting, smooth move!

CPL has really gone down hill lately...but I don't know if I can truely make that statement since CPL has always been based on playing the new and most popular games....CPL kind of ruins the stabilized gaming community by always changing games but you can't blame them maybe they feal people will lose a lot of intrest if they have the same tournament for years...just counter-strike =x It's going to be a sad day once counter-strike is not the main game anymore.....all though imo that's still about a year or two away.

CPL is a complete failure now. remember CPL Italy? everyone that went for FEAR got money since not even 8 people showed up. dropping 1.6 and Quake was the dumbest thing they could EVER do.

CPL died the day they dropped CS and Quake... what remains now is just a shallow subpar tournament that only shares a name with what CPL represented

#12 what is funny to think about nowadays is that if you were to talk about gaming organizations who won the CPL when it was the world's best tournament to a gamer who wasn't around back then, they'd say that it wasn't an accomplishment at all since the current CPL sucks so bad.
