It looks like it’s that time of year again. E3 2007 is just around the corner; and with it, comes the information blitz from developers about their future wares. Although, a good amount of the new games that are being announced this year are continuations of prior series’, a couple brand new IPs in the works are set to make their presence known on the hangar floor at the event.

One such title is, Ubisoft Montreal’s Assassin’s Creed. At last year’s E3, Assassin’s Creed was unveiled to the gaming world with much anticipation. As soon as it was announced, the question of whether or not Assassin’s Creed would be a PS3 exclusive was on everyone’s mind. As of this year’s event, it’s widely known that the title will be released for both, the PS3 and 360 -- after Sony managed to let the exclusivity rights slip through the cracks.

The difference with this title from the other new series’ coming out at E3 is vast, however. First of all, the setting is pretty unique for a video game. Assassin’s Creed takes place in the Holy Land during the Third Crusade in the year 1191. There are three main cities that are in the game: Damascus, Acre and Jerusalem. Ubisoft has taken great pride in telling people that their representations of the three major cities of the game are historically correct. They say they’ve done this by using actual reference material to do so.

In the game, you play as Altaïr, a member of a Muslim sect, historically known as the first group of assassins, called the Hashshashin. The Hashshashin are known for being the first group of assassins whose sole purpose is to kill the nine people who are bringing about the Crusades. Along with the historical accuracy of the cities, all nine targets in the game are actual historical figures that died in the year 1191; although, not all of them were murdered. While the game’s story is about a religiously divided region, Altaïr has no religious affiliation. His mother was Christian and his father was a Muslim, making it impossible for Altaïr to choose sides.
