Developer: Irrational Games Just as Summer's end will be near, Bioshock will be here. At the end of August expect to log hours onto your Xbox 360 while playing Irrational Games' new, highly interactive, Bioshock. This new first-person shooter will feature a trait known simply as "emerge gameplay", a term used to describe interactive situations in which the player is forced to make multiple decisions. Though it is not written in stone, the developer has announced that no multiplayer will be featured in the game. Being a one-player campaign only game, it may not gain the following as large as recent FPS games that are Live enabled, though a good single player game will still hook most anybody. The game has already won the E3 2005 "Game of the Show" award which is chosen by multiple online gaming websites. Bioshock will feature a large selection of "plasmids" which are weapons or capabilities that you can use to enhance your player throughout the game. Along with multiple weapons are multiple enemy characters to kill with your choice of machinery. The enemy characters range everywhere from regular people with guns-to hackable robots. The game is also supposed to slightly resemble the System Shock series, a series of two games of which the same creators created and enjoyed. However, Bioshock will be run from a modified Tribes Vengeance engine, which is just a more highly modified version of the Unreal 2.5 engine, which if Bioshock has gameplay anything like Unreal, will be an instant hit in response The games setting is in 1960 where the player is underwater and is immediately faced with the question of "How did I get here?" Debris is scattered, and somesort of previous wreck is apparent. The player then navigates to an underwater city which was once a utopian society that fell in the name of science when highly accessible stem cells where found, thus disrupting the equality of the utopian society. The society was man-made and fell in the 1950's. Huge buildings, living corridors, kitchens, restraunts, and what have ya', are found all over the game. The player will be challenged against multiple scenarios and enemies; all the while, the gamer will be making his/her decision on what the next step to take is. The game is already gathering thousands of fans, as a petition was signed passing for the creation of a limited edition version of the game, which will come with several extra goodies. So, if you've ever imagined what it's like to live underwater, kill bad guys, and even learn a little bit of information about stem cells, your golden oppurtunity sits inside of a little green box labeled "Bioshock" by 2K games. |
