Microsoft Xbox 360: Gears of War - The Update

With a number of changes to the game including new achievements for the Annex game mode and the "Hidden Fronts" multiplayer pack, we take a seat with the game to find out how different it is now from its prior update.

After the booming release of Gears of War by Epic back in November 2006, the GoW community had been begging for updates to the game. People would have their doubts about whether or not GoW can live up to its full potential, but perhaps our requests have been accepted and the game is beginning to pick up steam.

With numerous patches to the game, we would sit around every couple of months waiting for this or that to be updated, fixed, or just removed from the game. The last patch brought to us by Epic seemed to be a move in the absolute wrong direction. After adding Annex, the team gave us the stickiest roadie running we had ever seen and some of the most awkward changes (moving the weapon slide buttons?). This not only affected casual gamers on Xbox Live trying to score some frags, but it plagued LAN tournaments all over the United States.

No longer would we see players running away from gunfire when hurt, but instead we would constantly see them grasp on to the nearest cover in plain site, and get mauled by gunfire while trying to get away. This angered many gamers and the fact that Epic KNEW that the weapon slide was in the game. Instead of removing this, they changed the way that you perform the said glitch. Not the smartest move on their part, as gamers quickly picked up on this mechanic.

Thankfully, some months after the last update, we have been blessed with a new incarnation of Gears of War. Covered up by a seemingly odd set of achievements, we have been hit with one of the best Gears of War updates since the game has been released.

Below, and official list of updates brought to us by XBox.com:
