Background

Star Wars is one of the best recognized movie series in the history of the business, spawning a huge set of film paraphernalia covering everything from shirts to shower curtains. A variety of video game titles have been based on the Star Wars legacy, each having different success rates. So what happens when we bring together the fame of Star Wars and the fun of Lego?

The Lego brand has always been innovative with their basic plastic bricks, and video games were a logical progression for the company; to this end, they’ve done fairly well. The Lego racer series got the company out of the gates, but the critical acclaim came with the original Lego Star Wars. And it looks like the creativity machine has released another quality title with the sequel, Lego Star Wars II.

LGS II takes us through the original set of films, episodes IV, V, and VI. As the name implies, gamers play as Lego characters in a Lego world. This is one of the reasons that, despite the violence, the game is suitable for children and is really quite benign. But writing off this title as a children’s game would be a grave error, it is fun for all ages and the portrayal of humor is universal. With over a hundred hours of gameplay, is LSWII worth the ever rising prices of today’s games?
