Gears of War has received praise all over the media, including a 97/100 rating from GotFrag. It appears that fans have caught on to the quality of the game and are playing it at record pace.

Gears of War is dominating Xbox Live and has captured nearly 80% of all XBL traffic since its launch. Reports indicate that Gears of War has increased subscription signups by 50% since its launch as well.

The top spot in the XBL rankings previously belonged to Halo 2, which held the ranking for a very long time. Instead, Gears of War is becoming a holiday favorite and has surpassed 1 million copies since its launch on November 7.

Xbox Live allows gamers to create their own gamer profiles, friends lists, access demos and trailers, send and receive messages and play games online. Cooperative play features in Gears of War are exceptionally appealing, as gamers are allowed to join up with a friend and work through the stages of Gears of War.

Gears of War also features 10 maps for competitive play for strictly multiplayer gaming. This allows gamers to join a server with up to seven friends or enemies and plaster each other against the walls for hours on end.
