so I finally decided to get into competitive Halo 3 with MLG, and let me tell you, halo 3 has a way better community than CS or TF2. plus halo is a skill based game, so no more BS awp shots to the face.
not to mention this site is owned by MLG, and Halo 3 is MLG's main game. Therefore:
you're a moron.. CS > Halo 3 why? first of all, it's on a console and consoles are one hundred times easier lol aim assist lulz. second of all, it's a fvcking scifi game lol... z0mg sh00t da LaZuRzz
From attending some MLG events I can say that the Halo community is very strong and the competition of the game is great. I'm a CS fan first, but Halo is great competitively

putting that little dot of a crosshair on someones head is a lot harder that shooting a rocket laucher at someones feet. Not to mention the automatic sniper rifle....
#6 LOL, okay tough internet guy. How did CS make online gaming possible for the world? Quake was around before CS. And CS is boring looks like swat or some wanna-be swat. Ya know bro?
now you are just looking like a moron. "How did CS make online gaming possible for the world?" it's the most supported, organized, and favored FPS for 10 years in a row. it has received more attention than any other FPS out there with all of the events. tell me sir, what international event has HALO 3 had? the MLG pro circuit or what ever? lol. you're a joke, along with your other console players.
in case you haven't realized, most of the guns featured in todays popular war FPS games they use a couple of the guns from CS. i'm not saying CS is the whole reason they chose those guns, but if you had a brain youd understand why. AK47, M4a1, desert eagle, smoke, flash, HE grandes.. all in COD4 and other modern games.
and Halo is on a console which means you have aim assist. shows how much skill halo takes.
halo 3 still has a broken melee system, random br, aim assist, controller.
If the game allowed proper keyboard and mouse without aim assist and fixed some other problems(host advantage etc) it could be the best competitive game. As for the argument it is on a console, I see that as a plus. No body has a hardware advantage, less chances of cheating, a great online service, cheaper costs for both players and tournaments.
thats true, but the game overall is no where near as good as CS. consoles will never be the future until they support a mouse and keyboard. not to mention, cod4 console players like to play with a perk that disables sound.. what kind of FPS is played without sound?
i'd prefer sitting down on the couch propping my feet up and playing a competitive match than hunched over my keyboard and mouse. consoles are the future of competitive gaming; everyone is on equal settings so there's no cheating and no BS configs that exploit the game.
plus there's a lot of girls that are really good at halo, probably because of the autoaim or they forgot to cook, but theyre good nonetheless.
Console gaming sucks. #12 youre obviously an idiot. Watch any mlg match those players aren't chilling back on a sofa with their feet on a coffee table. They're all hunched over like little nerds too with their face 5 inches away from a t.v. That sounds healthy. Reasons why console gaming sucks -there's no real efficient way to set up online leagues. -controllers are horrible for fps' -everyone on equal settings also works against a player. That means you can't tweak your settings to your liking. Can't adjust zoom sens, can't config each button to do exactly as you like. Can't change resolution etc. -consoles limit fps (halo runs at 30 fps LOL) -auto aim -no server support so the game is hosted on an xbox giving advantages to a player and limiting the game's netcode, speed, etc. thats why games like doom3 are atrocious on xbox. -can't trade content. Have to pay for new maps etc. -can't be moded (ie codpromod)
All that aside halo in itself isn't even a Great game. Its a very generic copy of a copy of a copy. The only unique thing about it is a shield that regenerates. How stupid and noobafied is that. Atleast in quake when you were stacked with fullarmor and health it didn't replenish after 5 seconds. Also atleast you had to fight to get to that point, and fight to replenish your armor and health. Also halo is less about aiming and more about nade spamming basically making it so that a 3 year old child can kill you just buy pressing a button.
who cares about reviews? most of the reviews are from companies that look at a games graphics. the reviewers are clueless to what makes a good FPS, they always forget about the coding and the gameplay. we all know CS is a better game though.
#14, your a f-ing moron, look at shadow run, two separated communities because of the xbox/windows live crossover, the xbox players got owned nonstop and could never win....so who is better?
#14 ok broseph i accept your challenge. of course we would have to do this at lan so I know your not lying. Bring a controller (they make them for pc's too) to a lan hook it up to the computer and play me in cs. Of course ill be using the superier keyboard and mouse. GL. Of course this would never happen but we all know who would own who.
Come unarmed. Three black men named Tyrone, Lamar, and Terrell, respectively, will meet you right outside of those projects. They'll escort you to my legitimate gaming center. We'll play, you'll leave unharmed, and no one will get hurt at all.
a pro CS or quake player would stomp any pro console FPS player, just watch frag videos, the console nub takes 3 times as long to react. Not there fault the console hinders them, controller is bad for FPS period. Love to see f0rest face any random MLG "pro" at ANY aiming game. (as long as f0rest gets a keyboard / mouse of course)
Okay, let's not d-ride here on which game is better, or what is better. Let's be unbiased here. Both games are amazing, but.. Look how long CS has been around, look how long Halo has been around. CS has been around much longer, and it started the REVOLUTION of team based competitive gaming. If it wasn't for CS, there's a hefty chance that "Halo" would have been much like quake. Halo 3 IS a much redefined game, yes.. But how old is CS1.6 and how old is Halo 3? It's pretty ignorant to try to compare the two.
Also, there is much more competition in CS than there is in Halo 3. With an average of 62,000 players at any given second of the day, the most popular competitive game is Counter Strike; the game counts as the United States fourth most exercised sport. This includes sports such as Football, Soccer, and extreme Sports such as Skateboarding and Surfing.
Halo has come a long way, and is doing very successful, but it's not nearly as large as Counter-Strike 1.6. Sorry. I play both for fun, but my main game as of now has been Street Fighter 4. So I'm not a diehard fan of either game.
Consoles are not only better, but the future. Having the same advantages is ideal for tournament play, and it's fairly easy to set up for LAN practice. But, failure to have a secure host in almost every console game is what kills it. Another thing is console players are usually simple minded which is why they jump from game to game. Not to bash any console players but I've noticed this. If it wasn't true, players would have never left Halo 2, which clearly was the better game. Or matter of fact, would have never left Halo: CE.
I'm sorry but I live in a fraternity house and there are guys in my house who have went to MLG and are the highest rankings in that game and stuff. No offense I have been forced to play that awful game for past 2 weeks and already am just nearly as good as them. The skill gap in the game can be made up very quickly compared to CS, If they tried playing the game it would take them years to get to my level and understanding game play. And sorry crouching in a corner with a mauler takes no skill, same with the shotgun. Good job halo. Also I enjoy killing people with 1 hs to the face with an AK, not 3 to the head with a BR.
CS will always take skill. no matter what you say, you have to learn EVERYTHING in that game. it's ALL from experience, you can't just pick something up right away you need to practice for everything. you need good movement, aim, smarts, etc. in halo you just need good aim and host the game. host advantage is so much more obvious than a person with 20 ping and another with 60ping.
Brah I don't think you understand how much skill it takes to compete in Halo 3 MLG. Your team has to have amazing setups to compete. If you just try to DM you'll lose miserably. You can't just be a westcoast CS player and outaim everyone, you have to use your noggin'. You'll also need to know the timing and spawns of all powerups and weapons (like quake). CS doesn't have this complex timing stuff, you just twitch-aim and throw smokes and pretend you're running a complex strat. Let's face it, only fnatic and other top teams are running complex strats; your open team just fakes B every other round.
lets face it, nearly every GB team remakes after they get a loss. stop trying to act like they have a good community because they don't. i've seen tons of 360 teams REMAKE their team on GB just because they got a loss, they try to aim for 50-0 but aren't even capable of going 1-0. seriously, console players think stats mean stuff. i'm talkng about kill to death ratio and that stuff.. you will never be good lool
you kids are retarded try playing a console game without aim assist its nearly impossible and i would like you see what your BR looks like compared to someone who actually plays the game competitively. Halo's competitive community is only growing stronger with each event and i wouldn't be surprised if they take it international. #25 is correct timing powerweapons and powerups are a big part of the game with knowing setups and breaking setups when you rush when not to rush as a team its all team based more than individual skill. if you try to rush a setup alone expect to get killed in less than a second haha. Don't talk trash about a game you know nothing about or have never played and are probably absolutely terrible at. #21 62000 to halo's 100K+, 400K+ on good days i dunno what you're trying to prove.
I think people are trying to compare two communities with all the wrong reasons.
1. Consoles are, and always have been, FAR cheaper than an up-to-date PC. A large majority of console gamers do not have the money to dish out over a grand to play the latest PC games. Now I know it costs like $20 to make a PC that runs CS these days, but by the time you could build a PC to run CS for a price even to a console it was considered "out-dated," so people had far less motivation to START playing a game that was ALREADY "old." In the meantime people who couldn't afford good PCs bought Xboxs, played Halo 1, and so began a big following of the game series which has carried on into today.
2. Different appeals. Some people are into more realistic gameplay, some people are into futuristic games. While one person might find it exciting playing with shields and laser rifles, others favour a more realistic setting where 1 shot to the head kills. Also it wasn't until a couple years ago that CSDMs came out, so with the 1 death per round style vs the fast-paced Halo gameplay, it's totally understandable why people wouldn't want to wait a few minutes to play after getting killed.
3. Setting. Some people prefer sitting in a big room playing with a bunch of friends with the ease of just plug and play, whereas it's a lot more complicated and frustrating to setup a mini-LAN to play CS with friends, not to mention everyone has their own screen, sound, etc.
Finally, talking about what takes more skill is totally pointless, there are so many variables involved that an intelligent, logical conversation on the topic is practically impossible.
In the end even though these are both FPSes, they are two TOTALLY different games with immensely different setups/styles. Discussing the differences between the two is one thing, but saying which one is "better" is entirely different. When it comes down to picking what to play all you can really ask is: Which do you prefer?
#29 I wouldn't say that. Halo 1 was more aim based and less reliant on good setups, Halo 2 was a mix of the two, and Halo 3 is very reliant on setups. so yes, the series has become less reliant on individual skill, but much more reliant on team-skill and team-positioning.
And i wouldn't call 360 players shitty. I think the CS community and Halo 3 community have an equal amount of crappy players.
#30 thats why i said just like the COD series.. and promod was developed to make the game playable on the competitive scene lol.
either way, Halo is made for pub players. the only thing that makes it somewhat competitive is the ProCircuit and MLG. cool, one major league for a game. CS has like 20 major leagues lol.
what the hell are you talking about with aim assist? Does halo really have that? You want a real console fps? You should play Modern Warfare, it fits perfectly on the xbox with its speed and controls. I have been playing CS for 9 years and just recently got an xbox, I used to think using the controller was impossible. It isn't. It's actually a lot easier than I thought and if you look up pros playing, the good ones look like they are using a mouse definitely in cod4.
there isn't aim assist used in Halo league, it's just dumb to even have it on. The community is larger than most games which is a plus, but in all honesty the game is dumbed down from other FPS. People think no scopes are good when you still have a crosshair.
#35 halo does have aim assist. You can't take it off. Wtf are you talking about. It would literally be impossible to play halo without aim assist. Ever try to kill your teammates in halo? Thats what halo is like without the aim assist.
Who cares? Halo 3 has its advantage points like being able to go in ANY online match and troll the hell out of a group of 12 year olds that think theyre pro at the game. They obviously misunderstand the word "Professional". If you get paid to do something, and are 'wanted' to do it {i.e LAN events for gaming} you are Professional. COD4, is nothing more than who uses Jug/Bandolier/Whateveryellowperk. And M16+Desert Eagle. Theres nothing to it really. Just aim and hit somebody once, theyre dead. If you have some sort of skill with a sniper, good job now actually move around instead of getting in that corner.
Whereas PC gaming, you can find 16+ Some mature, some dorks just finding out about PC. There aren't as many jerks on PC, only if they've been trashed on xboxlive from a kid whose life has been ruined because of school. Other than that, PC has a much more solid and jovial atmosphere to the competitive gaming sort. Although there is one thing, nobody is going pro or anything, IN anything. Because the Professionals in the games that have been out already, have been playing with each other for so long. they almost cannot be beaten only to other teams that have played for years and years. Like CS 1.6/CS:S. As for QuakeLive right now, rapha is the top player. HE was just a CTF, but guess how he got to be a #1 duelist? Fatal1ty and Stermy are out of the picture. People can have a chance to improve. But now that spot is taken, only other of his kind can have a chance of taking it and Lather, Rinse Repeat until almost everybody in rapha's skill level can have a go at the title of #1 duelist.
Same for console gaming specifically for Halo 3. Str8 R1ppen isn't going to be losing many events or matches anytime soon to any other people lower than other teams their level.

The guy that will always post off topic YouTube links
well #46 its safe to say i play with people well over 16 and mature on xbl :/
for going pro you're right its nearly impossible at this stage of time if you have a good team and lucky enough you might place top 16 at an event nowadays :o which is huge and quite the accomplishment i would say.
