SoulCalibur Legends follows the characters and stories from the SoulCalibur series, a fighting game that features weaponry instead of hand to hand. The game has a single player campaign, and has also been given a two player co-op mode, or competitive mode to play with your friends.

The legacy started in 1995, with the release of Soul Edge for the Playstation. Later, in 1999, and with a major makeover, SoulCalibur was released for the Dreamcast. SoulCalibur 2 was released for all systems (PS2, GameCube, Xbox), each with a special character specific to each consoles version. The series followed up to its fourth iteration of the fighter with SoulCalibur 4 for the 360 and PS3; its slated to be released in 2008.

The story revolves around the Soul Edge, an evil sword of unimaginable power, and the SoulCalibur, a holy sword designed to combat the Soul Edge. The story for Legends seems to revolve around Siegfried and his transformation into the character Nightmare by using the Soul Edge. Taking place around the 16th century, it’ll follow a number of the characters as they try to obtain or destroy the Soul Edge. It’s looking like most of the characters from the other SoulCalibur games are returning.

Screen shots have shown Ivy as a playable character, as well as the Assassin as an encountered enemy. Also, Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia has also been listed as a playable character, though whatever role he fills is yet unknown.

At the Tokyo Game Show 2007, there was a demo available to play. The controls had the analog stick moving your character, dashing and dodging by whipping the nunchuck, and regular combat attacks by thrusting up/down/left/right with the Wii-mote. Also shown in the game was an ability to turn the sensitivity up or down for the Wii-mote, so you can tailor your style of Wii-mote ‘waggling’. At the end of the five minute demo, players faced a large dragon. This opens up the possibility of huge boss battles throughout the game.

People who played the demo felt that the game was coming along great; however, some felt that the controls left much to be desired. With the game coming out November 20th, we’ll see if Legends will continue the SoulCalibur franchises name or if it’ll end up as a complete bust.
