Nintendo Wii: Manhunt 2 Double-Banned in the UK

By: Robert Rodriguez - Published October 08, 2007 at 10:05 AM EDT - Writer Archive
The revised Manhunt 2 was banned for a second time in the UK.
Oh Manhunt 2, I hope you're region-free because you might not see the light of day over in the UK.

At first Manhunt 2 was banned everywhere..yes, everywhere. No where on God's green earth would you be able to find Manhunt 2 if the game wasn't revised by Rockstar, creators of Grand Theft Auto franchise. After receiving the AO-rating from the ESRB and being rejected by every single console to inhabit North America Rockstar got the hint: change the game! Which they have since done and got approval from the ESRB. Over in the UK it's a different story.

The game was re-banned despite being altered for a more family oriented experience. The British Board Of Film Classification deemed the game as unplayable, since some of the executions "retain their original visceral and casually sadistic nature," amongst other things. The BBFC claims to have given Rockstar advice on what to change in the game to receive their approval, but they have yet to do so, and that an appeal of the double-ban "lies with the distributor."

More news as it is released.
