Metroid Dread, a game announced in June 2005, was to be a 2D side-scroller for the Nintendo DS. Today, IGN pointed out that they believe Retro Studios dropped a hint regarding Metroid Dread.

"Players who journey deep enough into Samus Aran's Wii quest can use Aran's scan visor to read lore and lob enemies and objects. Doing just that on one mid-game world, we stumbled upon a panel with the following message, quoted verbatim below:


"Experiment status report update: Metroid project 'Dread' is nearing the final stages of completion.""

On August, 24, 2007 Matt Casamassina, IGN Game Reviewer and Previewer, was asked in a podcast about Metroid Dread he mentioned "a wink to the fans" in MP3: Corruption, he clarified that this was not a confirmation of the title.
