Nintendo Wii: The Wii Diet: Results

By: Michael Antebi - Published June 26, 2007 at 6:11 PM EDT - Writer Archive
The final results of Editor in Chief, Mike Antebi's month long Wii Diet. Was it a success? You be the judge.

The final week of the Wii Diet was under way and I felt terrific. I want to start this off by thanking all of you readers who have followed along and have sent in very kind messages throughout this entire month. As I've stated from the beginning, my hard work and determination is thanks to all of you, which have been my motivation from day one. Without seeing all of the encouraging words that I have read throughout this time, I am positive that I would have failed.

This week's results will mainly discuss more of how I've reached where I am at, rather than discuss what exactly I ate, which had previously been the bulk of my articles.

Work it Out

I can't stress enough that the gym was essential to my success. Two times a week, with a third time at my home, I hit the gym. It is vital to get yourself a couple of buddies to join you, time goes by so much faster than it really should. Imagine hopping on to a elipitical and having a conversation about your work, and 15 minutes float by, and 15 minutes of calories wiped away.

Every time that I hopped on a machine, I increased my calorie goal per machine as well as the actual time on the machine. Every new trip to the gym was a more refreshing experience than the last. Every new trip to the gym got me thinner and thinner. I'll have to hold off my actual net weight loss until the end of the article, but it has been substaintial.

Mike on set in his new movie!

I'm no gym expert but I do know how my body works, and believe you me, it is different for every person. Switching from different body groups per visit, with an abundance of cardio really worked off the pounds. A lot of comments that I have received thus far have been how I am doing things wrong. Well, I have to disagree with that. I'm positive there are more systematic ways to changing your life, and exercising and specific dieting can probably result in more weight and calorie loss, but that doesn't work for me. Why? Because I am trying to live as normal of a lifestyle as I have been before I started this diet, but I want to do it at a rate and tolerance that I can handle. I want to eat what I want to eat without feeling like a health nut. I want to be able to go out to dinner with my friends and immediately find what I want on the menu and know it'll be at least somewhat healthy for me.

Wii Interaction

To the Wii. Most people have said and continue to say I could have easily done this without the Wii involved. Although I would be inclined to agree, that is not the point. There is a very viable way for you to enjoy playing video games as a part of your normal routine and still live a healthy lifestyle and the Wii helped me achieve that. By playing Wii sports I seemed to turn away from being on a diet and simply exercised without consciously exercising. It was natural, like a lot of my lifestyle has been, which has taken some time. I invested plenty of hours into playing some of the same games repeatedly and it was completely worth it. Gamers tend to have a bad reputation of being lazy and overweight and although I wouldn't call myself lazy, I was, and still am overweight. Not only do I not feel guilty about spending loads of time on a video game, but I now know there is a constructive aspect to doing so.
