Those of you who were psyched up over our Wii Play preview are probably going to be a bit in the dumps hearing this, but at least you heard it from a friendly place!

Wii Play - Nintendo's continuation of its "first contact" series of games (think Wii Sports) - wont be seeing shelves January 15th as initially expected. Instead, the game is now listed for a February 12, 2007 release. Reasons behind the delay were not revealed, but as GameSpot reports, it may be because WarioWare: Smooth Moves, another party type game, was to be released on the same day.

Another theory is that hardware shortages - the Wii remote specifically - are more of an issue than we thought. Being that Wii Play comes with a free Wii remote, Nintendo either A) Does not yet have the amount of remotes needed to ship the game, or B) May need the remotes reserved for the game to distribute individually.
