Despite having to correct a few mistakes on both sides of the Pacific, Nintendo is still riding its "Wii" wave of success.
In a statement issued on Friday, Nintendo has said that it will exchange 3.2 million
Wiimote straps worldwide in response to reports of
incidents allegedly caused by the older straps being too thin and weak measuring at a 0.024 inch diameter. The replacement has a heftier diameter of 0.04 inches, according to company spokesman Yasuhiro Minagawa and can be
ordered here at Nintendo.com. This replacement will be done internationally, unlike the DS and DS Lite adapter recall that is only being done in Japan. Nintendo has said approximately 200,000 adapters would be recalled due to the possibility of overheating and burning players. Incidents from this particular hazard have yet to be reported, however.
While the Wiimote strap replacement will take a couple hundred million yen out of Nintendo's pockets the cost of the adapter recall will be split between them and the supplier of the DS and DS Lite adapters, Nagano Japan Radio Co. Ltd. Both recalls are expected to have little effect on Nintendo's continuing financial success due in great part to recordbreaking
Wii sales. In fact, shares in the company continue a steady climb on the Tokyo Stock Exchange so don't go selling your shares just yet. Or at this rate, buy some if you don't have any already!
