Nintendo Wii: Wii Dissected; $158 Unit Cost

The Wii has been cut open to reveal some pricing info on its tasty entrails.
Toyokeizai Online, a Japanese news site took the time to dissect the Wii, and figure out the market price for each part inside.

The market value is as follows:

Graphics chip: $29.60
CPU: $13.00
DRAM: $7.80
Optical disk drive: $31.00
Power supply: $11.30
Manufacturing cost: $19.50
Cost total: $158.30
Wholesale price: $195.99

If Toyokeizai is right, Nintendo is making about $40 per unit sold, plus peripherals. Considering most consoles have been noted to actually lose money off of their hardware, these numbers prove quite interesting. Not that it wasn't already known that Nintendo makes money off of each unit, but the numbers game always makes it more interesting, we say.
