Nintendo Wii: The Nintendo Wii Review

The next step in the setup was to create a Mii for myself and my wife. This is a unique feature that allows you to customize a virtual character for use in many of the Wii games. You can customize the size, shape, color, eyebrows, mouth etc and make the character look any way you want. We both had a good time setting these up. The system is now all setup, up to date and characters created; It’s GO TIME!

Wii Sports – Boxing

We start with Wii Sports. The first game we try is of course boxing, who doesn’t want the chance to take out the day’s frustrations on some helpless virtual character? The first thing we notice is that the remotes don’t seem to exactly mimic what you are doing in the boxing game. However, I was able to land a quick first round knock out on my wife. I have played many different people in this game and while I can seem to make the boxer do roughly what I want it to do no one I have played seems to be able to do the same. I have heard all sorts of different complaints from my Wii mote works better than theirs to it is because I am boxing with a male Mii and they have a female Mii. I have dispelled all of these by switching remotes and switching characters. The boxing game takes some getting used to but once you figure out the correct way to move the remotes to get the punches and blocks you are looking for; you can become quite adept at playing the game. Boxing has been hours of fun for everyone I have played with from my wife to my 3 year old all the way up to my 67 year old father.

Watch out for the Mrs!

Multiplayer is a lot of fun in boxing and it is a very active game, I actually woke up sore the next day after playing. The single player is a little disappointing as you either going against a punching bag of a computer character or a professional boxer that is almost impossible to hit. There seems to be little in between. In single player mode you basically move up a skill ladder as you beat what are supposed to be progressively more difficult opponents. My experience was that the first 10 I fought basically stood there and took whatever I delivered, getting knocked out very early on. Then like a switch you hit a certain skill level and they either block or dodge about everything you throw and nail you with crushing combos. I have made it past a few characters like this but the draw back is the lack of progression in the game. It goes from simple to hard in one move up the ladder. I don’t see myself continuing with the single player on this game but will always enjoy a good fight with my wife or friends.

Gameplay: 90
Graphics: 80
Multiplayer: 95
