Why now would anyone even consider buying Sony’s handheld gaming device, the PSP? Especially with the Wii, 360 and the PS3 all out this Christmas season. Well I would ask you, why not?

Why would anyone even consider buying Sony’s handheld gaming device, the PSP? Especially with the DS Lite, Wii, Xbox 360 and the PS3 out this Christmas season. Well, why not? This holiday season will see gamers spending millions of dollars on the gaming experience of their choice. Based on numbers by the Entertainment Software Association, 228.5 million gaming units were sold in the US in 2005. Games for consoles brought in over 6 million in sales. It is time the PSP got its fair share.

According to Doug Lowenstein, president of the E.S.A., “The average age of gamers today is 30. Even if you discount casual games like solitaire, the average age is still mid-to-late 20’s. The ESA’s research shows that 66% of gamers 18-25 in age have been playing games for ten years.”

Also, Let us remember the softer side of gaming. Women make up almost 40% of the gaming world. So why is the PSP struggling in the gaming community? My answer to this is: Lack of education about the gaming experience that is the Sony PSP! So, here is why all I want for Christmas is my PSP!

Games
The launch games for the PSP were a little disappointing. Though I challenge you to tell me who had a stellar game launch? Yes, I hear you spouting the Wii, the DS, and the Xbox 360. Be honest with yourself; one or two, maybe even three very good games, is not a STELLAR launch.

Now, one and half years later, the PSP comes into its second holiday season with games they can be proud of, not too mention what is on the developers table. Sony and their third party developers are constantly trying to push the limits of this little power house with every new game.

Games you should own:
Worms: Armageddon (a personal favorite)
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Burnout Legends
SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALS (1 or 2)
LEGO Star Wars (1 or 2)
GTA Vice City Stories / Liberty City Stories
Tekken: Dark Resurrection
Untold Legends: The Warrior’s Code
Madden NFL 07
Killzone: Liberation
Hotshots Golf
Need For Speed Carbon
Daxter
LoccoRocco
And much…much more!

Games to keep an eye on:
Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion
Silent Hill: Origins
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
Rainbow Six: Vegas
Star Wars: Lethal Alliance
The Warriors
Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters
Lara Croft: Anniversary
Marvel Nemesis 2
