Wrestling, love it or hate it, has a huge following.  While not at its peak of popularity as in the late 90s, it still is near the top of cable ratings and Pay-Per-View (PPV) buys showing a considerable fan base despite being scripted.  In turn, it was only logical to have games based off of wrestling; from the early years of the Wrestlemania games to the classics like WWE No Mercy.  But there have also been terrible titles over the years like WWF In Your House which featured a Mortal Kombat-esque game play rip off.  I am glad to say that Smackdown vs Raw 2008 aligns itself much closer to No Mercy than the atrocity that was In Your House.

Today we have the latest edition of Yukes' Smackdown vs Raw series.  This year’s 2008 version is the 4th incarnation of the SvR series though Yukes made about 5 other wrestling games before this for the WWE all with the Smackdown moniker. Yukes is the sole maker of WWE wrestling games now unlike years past where various companies developed for different platforms.  THQ publishes Smackdown vs Raw and much like many of the popular sports games from EA and 2K games they now have gone to a yearly publishing cycle with updates of rosters and game play from year to year.
