Sony Playstation 3: Spider-Man 3 Review (PS3)

Sound
Bringing back our favorite narrator Bruce Campbell and the voices of Tobey Maguire and J.K. Simmons, it added the little details gamers love to have when playing a Spidey spin-off. Even this did not help though as NY carried the sounds equal to some small town in Virginia. I found myself missing the screeching tires, yells of upset pedestrians or the cat calls of everyone’s favorite wall crawler. It was about 20 minutes into the game when I realized none of this was happening. How many people remember “hey watch it” as Spider-Man almost ran them down? All this was missing from the game.

Value
Here is where you forget everything I just told you. Any true fan of the Spider-Man games have had nothing to really keep coming back for in previous games. Now they do! With over 40 missions, several races to try their hand at, taking on several local crime gangs and hidden tokens abound, gamers will keep coming back. Besides who doesn’t want to swing through NYC again and again? I know I do, especially when I can grab a bad guy, throw him up into the air, spin him around a few times, fling him back to earth and finish with a foot to the head.

Conclusion
Spider-Man 3 may bring a few things to the game we have not seen in the past, but for the most part it is the same game with a few more missions and a couple extra boss battles. If you own a PS3 and wonder what game I should get today, I would pass on this one. Though the die hard fans will ignore this advice and for the most part will be happy for it’s greatest asset, which is 30 minutes to an hour of replay value.

+ Nailed the feel of being Spider-Man
+ Loads of extras
+ 40+ Missions
+ Graphics look spectacular

- Feels like a remodeled version of previous games
- Background noise is nothing like NY
- Actual story is forced and tedious
- Where are the “Hey it’s Spider-Man” calls?
