Sony has finally released some more information regarding its online play and also a very familiar plan for video game downloads. In a recent interview posted in the GotFrag community news, Microsoft Xbox 360's marketing manager, Aaron Greenberg, called the Playstation 3 online a "knockoff" in regards to the XBox Live system. Sony has announced a few more features concerning its PS3 Online which will be similar to Nintendo's plan to download popular titles on previous consoles. It appears as though Sony's PS3 Online will be a free service and is going to use a Playstation Network. This network will be similar to the XBL network as you can add friends and send messages within a group. As pointed out by Aaron Greenberg of Microsoft, the XBL service still has many more options than the Playstation Network, but there are still many similarities. Sony also announced it will have ten classic Playstation titles available in late November for users to download. According to IGN.com, PS3 Online will launch with the following games available for download (developers in parenthesis behind game title) Resident Evil Director's Cut (Capcom) Konami Antiques MSX Collection Vol.1 (Konami) Konami Antiques MSX Collection Vol.2 (Konami) Bishi Bashi Special (Konami) Arc the Lad (SCEJ) Jumping Flash (SCEJ) Hot Shots Golf 2 (SCEJ) Silent Bomber (Bandai Namco) Tekken 2 (Bandai Namco) Mister Driller (Bandai Namco New titles will be added at the rate of ten per month and will allow gamers a chance to revisit some of their favorite classics, or get a view into the Playstation past for those who are just joining the console scene on this latest generation. No prices have been announced for the online downloads, but the PS3 Online service is still free according to all published releases. Comparably, Nintendo will offer classic Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 downloads available for only $5-10 per game. Source: IGN |
