Do you find yourself drowning in the flood of information on the PS3? Wish someone would just tell you the facts so you can understand what it all means? Well here you go.....

With November 17th getting closer, the debates are heating up. Which console will take home the gold and leave the others fighting for 2nd place? I am not going to tell you that the PS3 is the superior console, or that Microsoft made a mistake by rushing the Xbox 360 to the market, or if the Wii is to stand out in the crowd with its Nunchuck controller. I am just going to give you the facts on the PS3 and let you decide which console fits your needs.

CPU

The Technical: Cell Broadband Engine is run by 3.2 GHz PowerPC core, surrounded by 7 co-processing units and is capable of running up to 9 hardware threads.

The Breakdown: This will give developers the ability to support a higher degree of AI (artificial intelligence), realistic environments, and greater level of particle effects.

Graphics

The Technical: RSX chip runs a 550 MHz clock speed and 256MB of dedicated RAM.

The Breakdown: With ONLY 256MB of dedicated RAM, developers will be limited to where they can focus their efforts. Will developers focus on character effects or environmental effects? With the smaller amount of RAM, Sony has allowed the RSX access to the secondary 256MB of system RAM.

AV OUTPUT

The Technical: From 480i to 1080p progressive scan with HDMI video output.

The Breakdown: By supporting the large range of outputs, the PS3 will look its best on every TV resolution.
