As we await the arrival of the PlayStation 3 console, Warhawk intends to push the PlayStation 3 to its limits.
Developer: Incognito Entertainment Inc. Warhawk will be able to utilize the PlayStation 3's new Cell Broadband Engine, along with its new graphics processor: RSX, to its full potential. The plot will revolve around the battle between your people, the Eucadians, and the invading Chernovans. Warhawk has a unique and enjoyable gameplay. Old fans will notice some similarities in the controls and gameplay, but overall the developers have completely revamped the feel. They added an array of new weapons, increased freedoms of mobility, created entirely new battlefields and missions, and added other minor features that will make each mission more engaging. The key element that sets Warhawk above all other flight-combat simulators and mission based war games, is the freedom to do as you please. In other terms, you will not be confined to do each mission a specific way. At any time you may fly the Warhawk, land the Warhawk and complete the mission either on foot or by boarding land vehicles such as tanks. You could also do a combination of everything. One of the coolest new features of the PlayStation 3 controller will be made available in Warhawk. For those of you who really get into the game and move your controller around hoping it will somehow make you move faster; look no further. The PS3's new “Motion Sensor” capability will allow you to maneuver the Warhawk by flailing the PlayStation 3 controller around. But this new feature will not allow complete control over the Warhawk. Sony's new “Motion Sensor” may be limited to only detecting the third axis of motion (tilting). Keep in mind that the “rumble” feature has been said to be taken out of all PlayStation 3 controllers because of legal struggles with Immersion: the company that holds the patent for rumble technology in controllers. Warhawk's new graphic environment will be familiar to old fans, but also appealing with new fans. Contrary to most war games, Warhawk will be filled with beautiful landscaping and awe-inspiring scenes. Expect Sony's new RSX graphics engine, which sports 256MB GDDR3 VRAM, to generate seemingly pixel less images. Aside from the brilliant environments, there will be hundreds of aircraft, ground troops, and vehicles that are all fighting with or against you. Brian Upton, the director of the project, explains: “We eventually decided on a look for the game that is very very lush and beautiful: blue skies, beautiful puffy clouds, sort of lush green fields, green forests. But in the middle of that we have this really really intense combat action. And the idea is to create a world where you want to preserve it, you want to save it from the violence that's being done to it so that the player gets really invested in what is going on.” There are also multiplayer modes available in PlayStation 3 online. Up to 32 players can engage in online multi-modal battles. You can also purchase online downloadable content such as: upgrades, new weapons, new vehicles, new levels, new missions, and new environments. While offline multiplayer modes have not been confirmed, I wouldn't be surprised if a Co-op mode or battle mode becomes available. Although Warhawk has not yet been completed, many details about the game still remain undisclosed. Expect Warhawk to utilize the PlayStation 3 to its full potential. Incognito Entertainment Inc. has had a great record so far, and has produced masterful video games for Sony. Screenshots of Warhawk look absolutely stunning and spectacular. Video trailers of the game are absolutely mesmerizing. If you plan on purchasing a PlayStation 3, released on November 17th 2006, Warhawk looks to be a must buy.
