Over the coarse of the next two years I believe there will in fact be a fundamental shift in the way people view and criticize the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. I have read new released articles about the CELL processors and the developers taking full advantage of the eight-processors. EA (Electronic Arts) has said: "This is the year of the PlayStation 3. This year (2008) the PS3 will outsell the Xbox 360 (but not fully takeover). Developers now, time and time again, are saying how levels (on the PS3) will be able to have more players (A.I.), stronger and more realistic physics, bigger, better looking (brighter) levels, and a broad more spectrum of other applications developers are able to benefit of. However, it is certainly more strenuous to program for the PS3. Other hints of weakness plaguing this system is the lack of 3rd party developers. But Sony states they have more 3rd party support than Microsoft with over 75 titles. I believe that Sony will overtake Microsoft in good time. Many people are sure to disagree but then again, Sony sold more than 117million PlayStation 2's.
[I am not biased towards either console, this is a thread about the PS3 of coarse and may seem biased. I do own both systems and am very satisfied with both.]
The xbox 360 and PS3 will both be strong until the next gen consoles are released. Anyone who thinks the xbox 360 will become outdated before its time is an idiot. With the exclusive games, xbox live, and deep pockets, the xbox 360 is here to stay until Microsoft's next console, and some.

#4 Oh, really? I hadn't heard about that. Like a sequel or something?
It would make sense, since FF7 is still arguably the most popular FF game made to date. Sort of makes you wonder why a sequel hasn't already been made by now.
Anyway...
#1 Everything still comes down to the same thing I'm always telling people -- market-share, market-share, MARKET-SHARE. Market-share RULES ALL.
And the thing to remember about market-share in every generation, is that it is 1.) self-perpetuating, and 2.) determined early in the generation -- it's a race that burns hot and fast in the short-term, and the result of which stretches fixed and unchanging into the long-term.
I'm telling you guys. The current market hierarchy is set. It is not going to change. But another reliable constant in every generation is that people will always continue to keep hoping that a market revolution is just around the corner -- and they'll keep saying that, all generation long, until one day they look up and notice that the generation ended and it never happened. Xbox fanboys did all generation long last generation, and now PS3 fanboys will be doing it all generation long this generation.
Just goes to show -- the more things change, the more they really stay the same.
6# ff 7 got a sequel!! i view this console war like this:
there are 125 million+ ps2 owners: so i see at least 60 million moving on to the ps3.
there are 30-40 million xbox owners: so i see most or all of they moving on to the 360
and theres still 75 million people to move on to a next gen console, so i see both ps3 and 360 ending up with 90 million console sold each by the end of this gen.
now thats what i think. both console will sell well but its going to be hard to see whos going to come out on in 1st!!!
but with the 360 selling like sh#t in japan and the ps3 all ready with the same no.'s in europe as the 360 and the ps3 out selling the 360 month by month in the USA, my numbers above cound be wrong.
you're all nerds. who cares. it's something that plays video games. take your consoles out of your ass and use them for what they were meant to be used for.
Square has stated they are trying to be a more profitable company. If they wanted to bank they would remake FF7. I personally don't think its the best final fantasy ever (I am more partial to 4 or 6) but they would pull in some major revenue if they did this.

And to chime in: I think the 360 will become outdated more quickly, but both consoles will remain on an even spectrum in sales and popularity.
