I think you might have to get additional cables no matter what. I don't remember getting any other cables with my PS3 other than regular hook-ups like the PS2.
#4 is pretty far off. the cheapest cables you're going to find whether they are HMDI->DVI or straight up HDMI will run you at least $30
there's a really great 37-inch westinghouse that my friend bought for $700 on the internet somewhere that he uses for both his computer and his xbox 360. it's full hi-def so I'd recommend that. I'll post a link when I find it.

all this is moot if you don't have audio input from hdmi.
as far as i know, the ps3 doesn't have an hdmi audio dongle like the 360 so you won't get sound on your monitor unless it has hdmi audio input or you use optical out (probably not the case if you're hooking your ps3 up to a monitor).
If the monitor has any sort of audio inout can be done.
HDMI-HDMI RCA-Use ps3's composite hookup and just use the red/white rca's and set it in the dashboard Optical (Toslink) - Optical 1/4 Headphones - PS3's composite hookup with RCA-> 1/4 inch headphones
PS3 with HD Monitor?
I am looking to purchase a PS3 but I am looking to kill two birds with one stone. I am seeking a monitor for use with my Laptop and the PS3.
So:
a) If I purchase an HD-Ready Monitor would I be able to plug my PS3 in (without any additional cables) and get full/partial HD quality output?
b) If this is not the case, would getting a HD-Ready TV monitor solve the problem?
c) In either case, are there any monitors you would recommend for gaming using my PS3 and my laptop?
If you could find one on http://www.overclockers.co.uk that would be awesome thanks, or if not just give me some models :)
Much appreciation,
Adrian
EDIT:
Monitor on deal, any good? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct..

....
The whole point of HDMI is to have the digital signal through one cable.
What dongle are you talking about ?
HDMI-HDMI
RCA-Use ps3's composite hookup and just use the red/white rca's and set it in the dashboard
Optical (Toslink) - Optical
1/4 Headphones - PS3's composite hookup with RCA-> 1/4 inch headphones
Also, I retrieved my HDMI cable from monoprice as well.
Not that I would know or anything. That's just what I hear.
