With the 80GB PS3 SKU off shelves (or soon will be), rumors are now surfacing that Sony has a 120-160GB model bundled with the rumble goodness that is Dual Shock 3. And it's all for the same price as the 80GB ($499). Of course this is a rumor being reported by an Ars Technica mole, so take this with a grain of salt. Not to discredit the aforementioned mole, but you never know with the gaming industry these days.
i cant see this changing things too much with respect to ps3 sales. u can easily change the ps3's harddrive without voiding any warrantees so this is just kinda meaningless. unless of course this uses sony's new cheaper bluray lens. then maybe sony's bottom line might see a jump.
Buying a separate hard drive of that form factor is an added cost (~$80 for a 120GB), and I doubt very many people will be bothering to upgrade that themselves but would rather have enough storage for their needs out of the box. So I certainly think there is a market for these varied hard drive sizes, but the whole confusion they have going on with BC and other features is a bit of a mess that should have been avoided.
im just buying a 40GB because i dont really need more than that and i dont really want to throw an extra wheelbarow load of pounds just to get 120 more of what i already have to much of...
I think I'm going to purchase a playstation 3 40gb soon, it seems like such a good deal to me. $400? that's quality for a system of that caliber - and the games to match soon enough. the only problem is the backwards compatibility issue, but honestly, I don't play that many ps2 games on my ps2 anymore.

By the way, it's a new single SKU falling within the 120-160GB range, not both 120GB and 160GB models.
what are the ps3-owners doing now since they were always b!tching about the xbox-skus? :D
do it Sony
they are just revamping the models and not producing the older ones anymore
its not any different than the playstation remodels except there are 2 of them at a time and they are coming out faster
well, when a HDD costs +$100, have it from 80 to 160 is quite cool :P
although i switched my 60 gb to a 250gb when i got the console :P (go go dad's laptop).
