i think the series is dying. there is speculation on 13/v13, but just look at the screenshots. theres a short-haired woman wielding a gun, flying all over the place. doesn't this just feel a bit too sci-fi? where's the fantasy in the games that we saw in FF4-9? the music has also taken an unbelievable toll. without the right music, (bring back nobuo) there won't be such a great feel to the game. just go listen to any theme from FF6, especially Celes's theme (ffonline.com) and compare it to ffx/xii.
what #5 said... the combat system on 12 is a little boring but the story is ok... 6,7, 4... my favorites in that order...
8 was bad (granted that was a love or hate FF) 9 was awful 10 seemed like a rehash of some of the earlier FFs 11 was meh 12 is decent... but after the crap that the previous 4 were... it seemed more amazing than it actually was (personally im not really digging the new combat system)
tbh it was just great progression and 6 and 7 set the bar super high... then the quality of the game suffered for some reason... could be that theyre running out of ideas
i would say that its dying 1#, i think after 10 x-2 it started 2 go down hill a bit, ff11 was a bomb i think, but 12 is doing great i say. square enix to me are the best game company in the world the things they can do with a console is just unreal. and youarebad its going to be a good game and the ps3 is better than the 360.
To me FF XII is an amazing game, they all are. Saying that the series is lacking in quality lately is just an opinion. I've enjoyed every part of the series from 4-12 thoroughly. So, to you the series might be dying, to me it isn't.
I agree with Nempou, it depend's on everyone opinion. I think the quality is the same, but i miss the old storylines. I Hope the games don't turn to bigs, because there will be no space for characters developement. And of course i miss the old bad guys ( Sephirot, Kefka, Ex Death ) style.
7,8,10,11,12 they are all great games, some are weak but are playable games. I think they are trying to do something that don`t belongs the the FF series, just like was said. a girl jumping around with guns is not what FF means, maybe its just like Hideo Kojima Trailers, its not what u think, but its not the style of Square(enix). i`ll wait to see, but im not expecting something good this time. sorry Square.
btw, a remake of FF7 its almost impossible, just think, if they do anything that is not like the original one, it will be a shame to square, and maybe a great pain in the ass, like, not every one, wants voices on their favorite characters, or, its a japanese game, japanese voice are great but, if they do like 12 , that its a horrible voice acting in english, this may $%@# everything.
(save that if sony is falling they may pay a lot for a remake of FF7)
