Madden Home: DPAD, No More

By: Michael Antebi - Published March 05, 2008 at 7:41 PM EST - Writer Archive
After nearly 2 years of production, GotFrag DPAD will be shut down immediatly.

For almost two years GotFrag DPAD has been supplying the console community with interesting features, editorials, reviews, previews, news, competitive coverage and much more. It is my great misfortune to tell you all that DPAD will be shut down immediately…

I'm ready for the "I told you so" or the "I knew this wouldn't ever work" comments, but I can't express how much I would disagree with that mentality. True, we were not as fast publicizing our reviews or previews as IGN and GameSpot did, who are well entrenched in the gaming industry, but I like to say that we put out more personal content than them, or any other major gaming website out there. My goal for DPAD was to invite you readers on a journey with our staff to get the best information possible for anything related to consoles. Our unique features took us from the beginning of console creations with the History of Console series to the great debate with PS3 vs. 360… You joined me in a battle of weight loss with the Wii Diet… We even saw how Midway chin would looks as a Mii character. We've been through a lot together through forums and posts and I am grateful for those fleeting moments I have had running this site. Along with my talented staff, I feel we have made an impact on the gaming community and especially the GotFrag family.

Some of you may care to wonder why DPAD is closing down; I'll do my best to tell you. Although DPAD has provided a steady stream of content and articles which has been featured on popular gaming news sites, the uphill battle to gain more readership and traffic turned out to be very difficult, if not impossible for us to achieve. Given the circumstances of advertisement and ability to gain exposure in a flooded market, GotFrag as a network has decided to focus exclusively on eSports content.

It is my firm belief that the DPAD idea and staff are and will always be committed to great work, unique and fun ideas, professionalism and journalistic integrity. The success of the website could not be possible without the dedicated staff each member from day one to present day.

I would like to take some time to personally thank some particular people for their help and guidance along the way. Thomas "mousie" Lam has been my right-hand man for over a year. Without his attitude, general know-it-all and fun character, we would not have the great staff you've read with. Jason "Anomaly" Bass, a person who has been in my corner since launch date, I will always respect your decisions and advice and thank you for believing in us. Max "maxypooh" Shay, helped me build this site to what it is today, without your help from the beginning, we wouldn't have gotten this far. Robert "robertj" Rodriguez, a very talented guy who has great potential was essential to the most recent success with the site. Also, Andrew, Joel, Yacker & Stu G., thanks a bunch for your work with us, it helped immensely. This list can really go on and on. But those who have worked with me know who they are and know how they contributed to this great website.

Thanks again to all GotFrag staff that I have worked with since 2003; Lee, Joe, Jason C., Jason B., Trevor, Mark, Marc, Scott S., Jeffy, Thomas, Augusto, Bobby W., Casso, Bootman & Randy, and the dozens more, it has been a great experience.

If you would like to contact myself for business or personal purposes, or get a hold of any of the former staff, feel free to email me at IHeartAustralia@gmail.com and I'll pass along the messages. Cheers.

Your friendly Editor in Chief,
Mike Antebi
