What are the DOA4 duo doing from south of the border? Editor in Chief Mike "Australia" Antebi finds out.
As we wind down to the last two cities of our tour around the world, we've made our way south of the border to Mexico City for some rounds of questions. First, tell us a bit about yourselves, where are you from, how long have you been playing and some hobbies other than gaming? Israel: Israel Navidad Estrada, I am from Guadalajara Mexico. Since I am the youngest in my family and my 2 brothers played as well. I have been playing since I was 3 or 4 years old. Back in the time of Atari 2600. I like to go out at night to clubs, raves, parties. Also going to the movies, concerts and sometimes theatre (depending on the play) Mirlet: My name is Mirlet Delgadillo, a.k.a. hitomi1. I am from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. I've been playing video games since I can remember. In DoA I've played for 3 years, and now I play for the CGS team, Furia. My hobbies are music, anime and drawing. What is it like playing on a global stage competitively in the DOA4 arena? Israel: It is very interesting. I never thought that what first started with some casual matches with my friends would eventually lead me to compete among the best players in the world. It is a huge satisfaction and achievement for me to compete at this level. Mirlet: It's really exciting, an experience that I am not going to forget! Feeling the adrenaline, the cameras, the pressure, the people supporting you, represent my country, it is the coolest thing ever. Of course I got a little nervious the first time, but with the support of my team and GM, I am getting more confident. Would you say the community around you is open minded into competitive video gaming, or would prefer traditional sports? Israel: The community in this city is very competitive into fighting video games, but not very much into DOA. Guadalajara community prefers old school arcades as well as new arcade games. Even so, Guadalajara has the best players in DOA in Mexico. Helping Hitomi and myself to be improving everyday. Mirlet: Not really, I have a lot of friends that really understand my work (because I consider this a job) and actually they envy me! I am not scared of anything, since like in any sport, you only have to worry about showing that you are better than others, not what the others are saying/thiking about you. Any fear of being an outcast by other gaming communities? Israel: Not really, DOA4 is becoming more and more popular and interesting in videogaming community What has been the most exciting part of being a professional DOA4 player? Israel: Getting to compete with toughest players in the world and learn their techniques in order to include them into mine. Mirlet: Of course showing that I am not only a fan of the game, it's a challenge, a profession and a job like I said before. It's earning the name that I feel I deserve for recognition. Page:
