The case being smooth with a light tint of green in the dark, I did not see anything except for the soft green glow from my wireless XBox 360 controller. I turn on my HDTV and prepare for a long, long night of gaming with the game that I have been waiting for. There were not enough stops in the MLG Pro Circuit to tide me over for this game, not enough Halo 2 to make me forget about the 25th of September. I have never been more excited to jump into a game since my first time playing Halo for the XBox. Sitting in a friend's room and not having an XBox at the time, he decided to show me his amazing entertainment system. Upon grabbing the controller, everything he said was in another language as I led my marines to victory with the big MC. Never have I truly enjoyed a game so much solely for it's single player campaign.

Thinking that this game has surpassed a number of RPG's that I had played in the past, I decided to grab myself an XBox and a copy of Halo. Perfect move, as I soon found out why that monstrous black box was considered the best. Before I continue this review, I must add that I am an avid Halo fan and this review may become totally bias... should the game permit it. After jumping into multiplayer action with my Spartan, I would wage war against others on maps such as Hang 'em High, Blood Gulch, and the infamous Timberland. Times have changed however, and the new era of Halo is here.

THE HISTORY
The Halo series was founded by Bungie studios, once a small office whose creations like Marathon Man were original yet not very popular except to cult fans. Upon the release of the XBox, Microsoft saw a lot of potential in this studio with their work-in-progress game Halo. This strategy game was meant to be released for the PC and MAC as Bungie’s step into the then “current gen” market. After receiving an offer from Microsoft, Bungie rebuilt the game from scratch into a first person shooter. And thus, Halo was born and released for the XBox on November 14, 2001.

The game was a hit with its amazing graphics and addicting gameplay. The sound was top-notch as this futuristic battle supported 5.1 surround sound that was specifically tailored to bring you directly into the fight. The controls were spot on and created the basis for all console FPS games regarding sensitivity and overall layout. After finishing the first, fans were drooling over the premise of a second game being released to the series. Soon after the success of the original Halo, Bungie was hard at work perfecting their series with the second of the series.

Halo 2 would hit us on November 4, 2004 nearly three years after the first phenomenon hit. Taking the world by storm, Halo-mania was in full force and we felt the back end of it as people would fight to the bitter end for a copy at retailers. The single player truly left people at a cliffhanger as the story was to be continued in a third installment of the series, and fans yet again ran to Bungie’s door and asked for the next game to be the best game in the series.

September 25,2007 marked the day that the Halo series was officially ended as stated by Bungie themselves, and over 500,000 fans would grab a copy of the game and finish the fight. Though the game is overwhelming, there are ways to look beneath everything to see how this game truly stacks up through the hype.
