Are you a big fan of Norse Mythology? Or do you like a great RPG in the style of a Japanese anime? How about with a very hard difficulty? If you said yes to any or all of these questions then this is your game.
Story
Odin Sphere; a well known but rarely mentioned RPG among the gaming community. When I first started up the game, to my amusement it was more impressive than what I’ve read on the box’s summary! The story even though in the style of a storybook is about 5 people named: Gwendolyn, Cornelius, Mercedes, Oswald, and Velvet who live in a fictional world called Ragnanival. Even though the characters have different stories they eventually cross paths with each other. Their main goal in the game is to survive different situations such as fighting the Queen of Death [which I’ll get into later] and 3 ferocious dragons, but mainly to save the world of Ragnanival from Armageddon. Basically the end of the world as we know it. Can these 5 important people survive to cross paths with fate’s tests and save the world? Looks like you’re gonna need more than a sword.
Graphics / Sound
When starting up this game one is to wonder; what will this game give me besides a fantastic storyline? Would the graphics be freaking sweet or would it literally suck? What about music? Would it remind me of Final Fantasy? I think not! This game’s story is not what makes it a masterpiece, but the Graphics and sound itself. Listen to the trees while running through a forest level. Go outside. Hear that? - Tweet tweet – Beautiful right? That’s exactly how it sounds in the game with realistic crystal clarity. The Orchestral score, which is done by composer Hitoshi Sakimoto, really was impressive. I think it’s safe to say eat your heart out Nobuo Uematsu! Voice Acting was so good you think you’re listening to a play. No, its not boring. In fact you’ll be so intrigued you’ll keep playing for hours and hours on end. The music and sound is so beautiful that it matches with the level itself. It makes you wonder why all RPGs can’t be like this. Though the graphics and sound may be sweet it sure makes up for its sour shortcomings. The graphics when you stare at it, its like visual Ice Cream. So beautiful it makes you wonder if you’ve entered gamer heaven or something. That’s the only way I can describe the graphics. You must experience this joyful piece of 2D watercolor graphics for yourself!
