Madden Home: Developers Can't Keep Cool

Has anyone noticed that every week, we find a developer or designer or department head or some lead guy blowing up? It seems like some of these guys are acting way of out fashion, and downright rude, yet no one cares?

In any given season of a major sport in America, it is almost a guarantee that you will see an athlete on ESPN SportsCenter who made a fool of himself off the field. Examples such as: Kobe Bryant lashing out against the Lakers’ upper management, Terrell Owens trashing his coach, and Barry Bonds hating on the commissioner. But as we know, this type of behavior isn’t limited to just sports; in fact, it appears in practically all aspects of popular culture. Good luck tuning into ESPN or CNN and not seeing headlines just like these make the top stories. Sure, they are entertaining, but we only see these stories because television is a powerful medium that celebrities like Kobe Bryant can use to be heard by the public. Now, our favorite game developers have joined the party to lash out against whoever stands in their way.



Odds are you didn’t hear about these incidents when watching your local 6 o’clock news; but just because the mainstream isn’t listening, doesn’t mean these developers don’t have something to say. They are angry, they are frustrated, and they want to be heard. Instead of appearing on TV, these developers are using the internet to get their point across in the form of blogs, podcasts, and interviews. Now that we have seen these developers get heated, we need to ask a few questions: What are they saying, why are they justified, and is this something we should be concerned about?
