Madden Home: FB defeats Carbon again for MLG title

By: Trevor Schmidt - Published June 10, 2007 at 10:37 PM EDT - Writer Archive

This time they started on Sanctuary in CTF gametype. From the opening the Ogre twins set the tone grabbing both Sniper Rifles and locking down the map. They then started capping the flags with Ogre1 grabbing the first one while his brother, Ogre2, picked up the second and third caps for a 3-0 map win.

Again Team Slayer format was up next but on a different map, Lockout. The score was close to start but Ogre2 kept up his hot play and pushed his team out to a 14-10 lead. His final score of 22 frags and 7 deaths would give his team a 50-36 victory and move them one map win from the championship.

Carbon remained strong though fighting back a second time. FB used their momentum to pick up a 1:07 minute to 0:17 second lead on Midship in Ball gametype. Carbon rallied forcing a tie at 1:17 all and again at 2:20 all. Finally FB pulled ahead and looked like they’d kept it as the game approached a time limit conclusion. Carbon though responded hiding the ball in the red side bubble near the Carbine. They moved the lead to 4:09-4:00 in their favor.

FB got the ball back with less then 20 seconds on the clock and had a chance to grab the win but a well placed grenade from Carbon fragged the bomb carry and ended all hope for FB in an extremely close match, 4:09-4:04.

With a reprieve, Carbon now faced Warlock on CTF gametype. It did not go their way though as FB opened a highway down the middle of the map as Ogre2 followed by Walsh captured the flag. Walsh grabbed another capture near the 25:00 minute mark. Karma was able to grab a capture for Carbon but by this point was too late. Strongside’s two captures ended it and gave Final Boss their second title in the 2007 season.

“We are on TOP!” said Walsh after the victory, “I think he (Gilbert Arenas) was happier than we were, he really was into it and that was great to see.”

Strongside felt confident about FB’s chances to continue to dominate this season wondering if other teams were focused enough of Halo2.

“It feels like a lot of players aren’t playing Halo, they seem focused on other things,” said Strongside.

Strongside’s challenge could be interesting to see if any teams respond next month at MLG Dallas.
