Madden Home: FB defeats Carbon again for MLG title

Midway breaks down the finals of the MLG Meadowlands 2007 Halo 2 4v4/FFA Champsionship. Final Boss and Carbon battle it out for all the marbles.

Meadowlands, NJ - Gilbert’s boys came into the Upper Bracket finals with one thing on their mind; back-to-back titles. Major League Gaming, parent company of GotFrag.com, held its first event in Charlotte and provided Final Boss redemption over a Carbon team that really dominated them at the end of the 2006 season. A title here in the Meadowlands would reconfirm their spot as the true Final Boss of the MLG.

In a best of three series for the Upper Bracket Final, Final Boss got off to a slow start as Ghostayame of Carbon stole the show posting two captures to end the CTF map on Midship. Walsh had picked up two captures for FB but the rest had been all Carbon, giving them a 5-2 win.

The action then moved to Beaver Creek on Team Slayer gametype. For the first five minutes FB controlled the action, completely denying both the overshield and rocket launcher to Carbon. On top of that, Ben “Karma” Jackson of Carbon was shutout of the scoreboard until the 10:30 mark with a score of 47-15 already collected in favor of FB. FB cruised to a rather humiliating 50-15 victory.

Still, Carbon proved they had a lot of heart coming on in the third map to take advantage of FB’s disorganized attempt to control the Ball on Lockout. FB continued to try and hold the Ball in the green room on the bottom of the map but Carbon attacked it before FB could set up making them pay for the strategy. Carbon used the transitions to build up a comfortable 3:23-2:00 minute lead. The overall time limit finally became the overriding clock as neither side could collect the necessary 5:00 minutes to score a victory. Carbon pulled out a 3:44-2:29 win.

Carbon now held a 2-1 lead with Midship up again, this time on Neutral Bomb format. Carbon started with a fast attack grabbing the bomb from the middle of the map and moving into FB’s base. A good respawn aided FB as they were able to regroup and stop the Carbon plant countering the action with their own attempt.

Both Ogre1 and Walsh pulled off plants to create a 2-0 score in the map. Carbon was continued to be shutout and couldn’t retain control of the bomb for very long as FB put merciless pressure on the Carbon base. Finally Ogre2 grabbed the bomb and moved through Carbine before reaching the Carbon base. Before he could finish planting he was assaulted and died. Walsh though was able to come in picking off the Carbon attackers and finish of the plant for the victory tying the series at two games each.

The fastest gametype of all was last in this upper bracket showdown as the teams played Warlock on Team Slayer. The small map size makes the deathmatch style of play very fast paced. This was great news for FB who dominated Carbon earlier on the same play style but an even larger map. They made quick work of Carbon sending them to the lower bracket.

Carbon took out Perfect Storm 3-2 in the Lower Bracket final and got a rematch with FB. With a 3-2 lead carrying over, FB came into the match with a nice advantage and needed to win three more games for the championship.

“We couldn’t go into the match too cocky because it was back in forth (during our upper bracket match),” said Strongside.
