The seeds played out as expected in front of a standing-room-only crowd at MLG for the Gears of War Final

Gears has arrived. Rivaling the size of the Halo 2 Pro finals in size nearly 1,500 people watched LgD Red face vVv Vision in the MLG Meadowlands final of Gears of War. The match pitted two teams who faced in the Upper Bracket finals against each other.

LgD Red came in with a 3-2 lead in the series which was now pushed to a best of 11 maps based on the rules of Major League Gaming, parent company of GotFrag.com. vVv Vision benefited from the opening bell by grabbing the lead after cleaning up on Canals.

Both teams attacked the middle bridge after grabbing sniper rifles on their respective bridges. The action was mostly focused on the ends of the middle bridge. Some rounds the two teams would collect on the rail side while other rounds action would focus in the hallways on the other side of the middle bridge. Either way it went decidedly to vVv Vision who won three straight after dropping the opening round.

The second map was even more vVv Vision as you could tell LgD Red just didn’t seem into the game on the same level they had showed earlier in the tournament. Hard rushes by both teams into the outside courtyard where the boomslang spawned was the norm. Both teams wanted to stop the opposing team from controlling the boomslang, which exhibits similar features to the AWP in Counter-Strike and the Sword in Halo 2, one-hit-frags.

Three rounds into the map it was all over as vVv Vision swept LgD Red. This pushed vVv Vision to an overall lead for the first time at 4-3 in map scores. The next map was Fuel Depot which also featured a boomslang spawn.

Predictably both teams rushed to this area with quick action again taking place inside the warehouse near the boomslang spawn. vVv Vision’s momentum gave them the early edge as they grabbed the first two rounds before LgD Red responded. Finally showing some life LgD Red picked up two rounds of their own tying it at 2-2. The final round though went back to vVv Vision as LgD Red just didn’t seem to build any momentum for their two victories.

A screaming crowd of vVv Vision supports gathered on their side of the stage yelling and building their momentum. A 5-3 map score was the natural by-product. Needing only one more win, vVv Vision set their sights on another Canals match.

The repeat map was a great benefit for vVv Vision as they continued their same strategy at attacking the middle bridge from both sides. The attack worked pretty flawlessly as they swept LgD Red to register a huge come from behind win in the Grand Finals.

It seemed like just as much a great vVv Vision win as it was an LgD Red collapse as they didn’t show any emotion and lacked the needed composure in front of a large audience. vVv Vision’s 12-3 rounds was impressive considering the undefeated LgD Red had basically demolished everyone else on its way to the finals game.

The end result was a very excited and well received final for MLG. The fans and players will have good momentum heading into potential future MLG Gears of War events.
