Midway shares his thoughts on the opening day of MLG Meadowlands With the media capital of the World just across the river in NYC, that’s one element not missing. It didn’t hurt also having the article in the NYTimes yesterday as they ran a featured profile on Lil’Posion. Lil’Posion was also featured here at GotFrag a little over a year ago, in an article. The effect on MLG Meadowlands was massive and immediate. Every television news crew is here. ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox and more sent more then just their local media but their actual network media representatives with intentions of putting MLG related content on their evening news programs. The “real” professionals are taking it in stride. While Lil’Posion may be the talk today, this Sunday David “Walshy” Walsh and Ben “Karma” Jackson will resume their place in the spotlight as their respective teams Final Boss and Carbon again do battle for the title. Walsh was interrupted earlier today during practice to do an in-depth interview with CW’s news network and flashed a grin in my direction after I told him to put in a good word. Still the rest of the players seem more focused on the event to come. Rainbow Six and Gears of War both are looking to deal with issues on recent patches from Microsoft. Both have features similar to Steam now that require internet to authenticate aspects of the game. How that will effect the tournament has yet to be seen, however MLG’s Charlotte Rainbow Six events went off pretty effectively. Gears of War receives its first MLG event but also its first major event of any kind. The players will be using this event as the measuring stick for who the best of the best is. Pressure will be intense for the early spots as MLG “pros” in the Gears of War future. The event has its similar look and feel with the three massive projection stages. The competition area has received a lot more space as the cramped room of Charlotte is a thing of the past. The new found space now includes the Gear of War tournament area featuring a shared mini-stage for Rainbow Six and Gears. Tonight action gets started with FFA Halo 2 which will focus mostly on the massive entries looking for the right to play top professionals. The professional FFA won’t get started until tomorrow night after the 4v4 tournament begins at 10am EST. GotFrag will be covering the 10am EST start from the beginning with full scores and updates on the matches.
