Robert Rodriguez breaks it down for the teams competing for a $5,000 top prize and bragging rights inside the tight-knit community.
On June 8th to the 10th the MLG will be in the Meadowlands which is located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, which is home to the Nets and Devils, and will be hosting one of the best stops yet. So sit back, put your controller down and see which teams are expected perform the best. LGD Red Devastator Desecrate FiberOptic ShaKuR) LGD is the most recognized name in the Gears of War competitive scene. Red is one of two teams that will be representing LGD this coming weekend, and they are the one teams will be gunning for. Having won both groups in the MLG GameStop $5,000 tournament, as well as the buy.com LAN tournament in California, they have been established as the team to beat. If any team wants to earn some recognition, especially within the LAN scene, they will have to defeat these guys. One of the players to look out for is FiberOptix; with the bullet registration on LAN being much better when compared to online, watch for him to hit some amazing shots not only with his longshot, but with the torque bow and shotgun as well. The team is extremely versatile, and each player brings their own set of skills to the table. They were recently undefeated until their companions over at LGD Black beat them online -- which is another team you should look out for. LGD Black Dante G3N371X Sewpraa Atmosfear LGD Black is the other team representing LGD this coming weekend, and they've been on fire as of late. They're the only team to be undefeated in CAL, and they were the first team to beat LGD Red -- ever. The only thing holding them back is their lack of LAN experience. Yes, I know, there has only been one big-time LAN event (buy.com), but that could make all the difference when it comes down to the last round in a close match. It's going to be rough being in the shadow of LGD Red with their successful resume, but if they play on LAN like they play online, look for them to dominate.
Puff StOnEs Takedown Bawabus Within the competitive scene, vVv has been viewed as the underdog, but has always out performed the competition. Lately they've been on fire dominating both CAL and MLG leagues. Their CAL record is an amazing 9-1, while in MLG they were ranked #8 and defeated top teams such as Type-Z, MoB HoT n MiLD, the NSAN3Z, and most notably LGD Black without host advantage. In CAL they defeated the top-tier team vBi 3 maps to 0, right after their MLG match against LGD Black. On top of that, they also won their WCG Qualifier, where they shutout High Council+ in the finals. vVv is filled with talent, great leadership and professionalism. I predict them to make it all the way to the finals. High Council+ CDN 111 Immortal Spawn Venom xHighDistortion High Council has been plagued with roster changes as of late, but has always performed well. Locally they've won numerous LAN's and placed second to LGD Red in the MLG GameStop $5,000 Tournament. CDN 111 and Immortal Spawn have been the only two consistent members of HC+; if they're able to use the LAN experience they have to their advantage, along with Venom and HighDistortion playing their best, they may be able to out perform some of the top-notch teams and place really well. N3 (No Name Noobs) HoTDoG SLotH Sarillo N3 NiCk Here's another team that will be bringing some LAN experience to the MLG Pro Circuit. They've won a few midwest tournaments and have performed really well in CAL, MLG and GameBattles. Win or lose they've always been a challenge to teams throughout all leagues, showing that they are consistent and a team that should not be underestimated. GotFrag will be at the Meadowlands live this weekend bringing you up to date scores, pictures and interviews. So stay tuned!
