Trevor "Midway" Schmidt checks in from Charlotte with a recap of the Final Boss, Str8 Rippin, Upper Round MLG Halo 2 4v4 match. ![]() It was pretty safe to say that Str8 Rippin felt their chances were better then ever before. So when they opened the first game with a capture by Naded it looked like Final Boss could be in trouble. Strongside wasn’t going to allow that though as FB posted four straight captures in the 26th, 23rd, 22nd and 20th minutes. ORGE1 added another to give FB the 5-2 victory. It was Walsh’s strong 27-15 frag totals that help to pave the way for Strongside’s stellar flag running. Legit picked up the other flag capture for Str8 Rippin. The two teams headed into the second map; Slayer on Warlock. The map opened pretty evenly until Str8 Rippin ran out to a 14-6 lead. They would never look back increasing that to 19-9 at 13:30 timeleft in the 15 minute map. By 11:00 minutes, Final Boss would pull the score back to 38-32 but that is the closest they would get. Str8 Rippin held out the lead finishing with a 50-43 score that was really never in doubt. The next map seemed to be the decider as the two teams were even 1-1. The winner of the third game, Ball on Lockout, looked like the team that would win the event. Str8 Rippin looked like that team after 6 minutes into the map as Naded took control of the Ball and took up a home in the Library of Lockout. Before FB could really respond Str8 Rippin had a 1:35 minute advantage to FB’s 0:00 score. It wouldn’t be until the 10:00 minute mark that Final Boss would get onto the scoreboard. FB edged back to a 2:56-0:30 time disparity, moving the Ball into the Green Room on the bottom of the map. Walshy earned the first 1:00 minute of clock for FB but it wasn’t until 2:30 left in the game before Final Boss completed their comeback. A few dramatic melee frags with the Ball by the ORGE brothers really changed the momentum of the game similar to a dunk in the NBA. FB continued their strong play holding the Green Room and winning the map 4:36-3:51. The come from behind victory broke the back of Str8 Rippin who seem to have lost all of the forcefulness they had displayed only a map ago. The fourth map was Sanctuary, on CTF. This turned into a low scoring sniper fest as both teams passed control of the middle area of the map back and forth. Walsh finally broke through with a nice run down the middle while Str8 Rippin was respawning. The capture in the 28th minute seemed like it might be all the score as the two sides grinded with a stall. Walsh again had the answer finding a way into the flag and running the flag into the middle of the map. He got jumped there by a pair of Str8 Rippin members. As they were about to return the flag ORGE1 came out of no where and took them out grabbing the flag and knifing his way back to the base for the second capture. Strongside would add one more to put the finishing touches on a 3-0 victory for FB. FB now advances to the Winner’s Bracket Final with the 3-1 map victory. They’ll face FBI the Agency, their bootcamp training partner, who defeated Cinderella bid 5K in the other Semi- Final. |
