[#17] The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy

Genre: Adventure-fighting
Publisher: Midway
Developer:
Number of Players:1-4
ESRB:E10 for Everyone 10+

The Story

Grim, Billy, Mandy and the gang get together in Midway's new Billy and Mandy, based around the characters from the TV show of the same name. Characters from the show are pitted against each other in this adventure-fighting game, filled with "mayhem and chaos." Players can duke it out in insidious locations such as the Desert of Doom or the Underworld, in a four player battle royal. Or, join up with a friend in adventure mode where 40 story-based missions wait ahead. Weapon and character unlockables litter the way as Midway's Billy and Mandy releases days before launch.

The Facts

With over 40 story-driven missions, a whole range of playable characters, unlockable items and unique fighting arenas, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy is looking more and more like Super Smash Bros. Lite. Don't expect this game to be held in the same breath as Masahiro Sakurai's pride and joy, but from what I've seen it definitely has its own unique take on battles, and to be honest it's going to be a nice change of pace. Expect to be able to utilize a few different Wii controller setups, such as split controls, the GameCube remote and more. But a different way to play isn't all, players of the Wii version will also enjoy content-specific gameplay features that will only be available on the Wii. While the features themselves haven't been revealed, don't be surprised to see extra missions, characters or weapon utilization.

Cartoon Network has been good to me over the years, so I've got to show this some love on the count-down. The multi platform title can also be found on the PS2, GameCube and Game Boy Advance.

Best Super Smash Brothers Stand-in

Ok, so maybe I'm taking the comparisons too far. Actually, I feel guilty now for giving out this award. But what other games coming out offer even close to the same style of play as our beloved Super Smash Brothers? Maybe I have SSB fever - everything looks like a Tylenol to me. But it needs to be, because I can't be expected to wait until 2007 to go Solid Snake style all over Luigi's butt. If you're wondering "why Luigi?," yes, it's because I never beat that stupid mansion game, and I'm angry. "Marriiiiiiiooooooooooo!," ugh, the shrieks still chill my bones.
