Sony has issued an statement acknowledging that the PlayStation Network may have been compromised.
We have found out that there has been a possibility of unauthorized access to personal information on the PLAYSTATION®Store through PCs, a content download service of the PLAYSTATION®Network. Although unlikely, it is possible that the passwords of a small percentage of PLAYSTATION Network users may have been changed through unauthorized access, making it possible to view users' personal information and/or use the Wallet for the PLAYSTATION Store. PLAYSTATION Network accounts do not display entire credit card numbers, so any unauthorized access to your PLAYSTATION Network account is very unlikely to compromise your credit card number.
We have taken immediate measures to rectify this issue and system security is restored.
We have investigated the extent of unauthorized access and possible alteration of passwords that could have occurred before corrective measures were taken, and are directly contacting customers who may have been affected by this incident. In order to verify that your account is intact, we strongly suggest that PLAYSTATION Network users sign in to the service. If you can successfully sign in with your pre-set password, your account is not affected by this incident
PSN is good, im not cheap or anything but i dont wanna pay for XBL and xbl isnt even that great, what does it have that the PSN doesnt? you microsoft fanboys are over reacting and are just trying to make your selves feel better by posting this

Even Sony admits XBL is a superior service. PSN will eventually come close to rivaling, but all the money we pay goes to servers and improving the quality. All games have in-game dashboard, achievements, cross-game invites, private chatting, da WoRkz. PSN will eventually have said features (love how they're biting off achievements), but probably won't be implemented into all the games out now. Home is for overweight kids who make their avatars into who they want to be and attempt to meet chicks online or have a socializing disorder of some sort. Is it really that amazing that you can walk into a "theater" and watch a trailer for KZ2? Oh I get it, we can stand in a circle, use our SixAxis motion-sensing and make it look like we're jerking each other off. The only advantage the PSN over XBL is how open-ended it is; gives mods the ability to make some crazy stuff. Oh, and some good, fresh IP's (PixelJunk Monsters, Everyday Shooter).

$3.85/month. If you can't afford that you shouldn't be purchasing a console to begin with.
