My first encounter with Dreamcast must have been in a CompUSA shortly after I bought an N64. I remember looking over at a child playing it, I think he was playing Seaman. So I said to myself... I would never in my right mind buy the system. As I said I was content with my N64, but as the months passed the new system on the horizon really caught my attention, the Sony PS2. I remember buying any magazine in sight just to gleam at the images. Note these were the early days of the internet so spending a few bucks over waiting a good 30 min for your AOL 56K modem (which acted like 22K) to load a half decent image.. well you do the math.
Fast forward PS2 was out and scarce. Still being naieve what did I know about the high demand for a console system. One day I decided to go to a GameStop and was told by the employee that the PS2 will not have any good games on it whatsoever. So I left and tried at another store and figured why wait so I just got the next best thing that was cheaper, the Dreamcast. Granted those employees are for a lack of better words, full of shat. I am glad they were because I was united for the first time with my lovely system! The End.
so like my friend gets divorce from his wife, and he's all like "yo i got a DC with a mod chip and all these games, ill give it to you cheap."
i sit hear before you, a changed man.
ps. i also got a computer with an atari built into the side :) it was a sweet computer till i sold it back to him for his car ! zing ! :) friends divorces, the best thing to ever happen to you. ever.
Basically I had discovered a game called Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in the arcade. I was obsessed with this game and challeneged anyone who would give me the time. I hated losing (and losing my quarters) so I decided to try and buy the game for a system that I owned. I had only owned a Gamecube and was furious about it. At the time I wasn't really into sony so I wasnt going to bother wasting $200 for one game. But one day I ask around school about a DC because I remember googling mvc2 and DC came up. And it turned out some dude was selling one for 30$ with a controller, memory card, and crazy taxi.
I spent the entire night playing Crazy Taxi and eventually was able to find MVC2 online for $10 (the first one I got was all screwed up). I later found out that my friend had a Japanese version with a boot disc to play it, he told me that it had online play (and you could only get certain characters by playing online). Dude how I wished people had played online back then...
But that is my story, and now I currently emulate snes roms on it for fun.
My first encounter was in a bathroom... I had a toilet next to me (thank god) and was able to vomit profusely upon seeing some kid bring his newly bought Dreamcast. I looked him square in the eye, and said, "Son, I'm sorry you were ever born and the pain you are about to endure upon opening and playing that." With that I left the bathroom, half drenched in puke, and cried in the parking lot of [insert shopping center here].
