Don't know which team to start with? Want to pick your hometown favorites? That can work, but there are other ways to pick the best team for you. ![]() When talking about Madden it is very important to remember that it is a video game of unique properties. Just like other competitive video games, there is a skill curve which separates the Pros from the Joes, but at the same time Madden is unique in the fact that the players' choice of teams greatly affects the game. Playing with the Falcons without Michael Vick behind center is asking for a whooping, just as playing with any team that has a receiver the caliber of Randy Moss gives a distinct advantage. In past incarnations of Madden the game was focused on certain qualities, such as when the hit-stick feature was introduced. The hit-stick made it so that the game was more defense-oriented. Running ahead of blockers was a sure way to get the ball knocked loose if the opposing player was able to make a direct hit. This of course forced players to play the game the way it was meant to be played, such as running behind blockers instead of running free ahead of them. The same goes today with the concept of the quarterback vision. While the use of QB vision is not exactly what I think of as a game-changing feature, it is actually the receiver on the other end. Any team with a superstar quarterback and a superstar wide-out now has a clear edge over any team that does not. Being able to score from anywhere on the field at anytime kills traditional football gameplay. No longer will Madden players grind out games by running the football, playing field position, and managing the clock. Instead, players now tend to force the long ball, typically with good results. Some may argue that this is the reality of football, but what they do not see is the fact that teams on the professional level are not lining up and throwing it deep every play. It just does not work nor should it work. It does not seem fair that teams can send a superstar receiver deep on every play or every other play and have it work, even when that receiver is being double-teamed. Page:
