Madden NFL 08: 5 With Pause

By: Jayson Bussa - Published October 17, 2007 at 12:12 AM EDT - Writer Archive
Jayson "spankeee" Bussa 'pauses' to ask Playstation 2 Arizona Regional Champion David "Pause" Anderson five questions.
You won a Playstation 2 title in this year's Madden Challenge. What attracted you to the Playstation 2 division and not XBOX 360?
My plan was to play in both the PS2 and Xbox 360 tournaments in Phoenix. Once I made the final 16 in the PS2 division, there was about a two-hour break, so I asked if I could compete in the 360 division. They said 'yes' but it would disqualify me from the PS2 division. So, I decided to stay in the PS2 division and I'm glad I did.

Do you think the Playstation 2 division gets a bad reputation for not having the top competition?
Yes. I do think that the PS2 division does not get the best reputation for having the top players in it. But if you look in it, it has top competitors like Problem, Houseshoe, Jay-O, Big Gene, Q-Bert and me. So to me, it's still a very tough tournament to win. I mean, only 17 people in the United States win one. So if you do win one, your arguably in the top 20 in the U.S.

You beat Problem in your title journey, does that feel good seeing how good of a player he is?
Yes. It feels great because he is arguably the best Madden player to play the game. He's beat me in two final tournament games. The games were close, but I just couldn't pull them out. Me pulling out the win in Arizona boosted my confidence because it showed that I am one of the top players in America.

Any plans on attending more Madden Challenges?
I am not planning on going to any more Madden Challenges this year. I am going to continue practicing my Xbox 360 skills and hopefully win numerous local tournaments here in California and have a shot to compete on next year's Madden Nation show.

How do you think you'd stack up against the XBOX 360 competition?
I think I would stack up pretty well against most of my Xbox360 competition. I still need to practice a little more to become an elite player in 360 because this is my first year on it. It will take me a couple more months until I am ready to put my money where my mouth is.
