I dunno about the Colts being #2. I'd LIKE to think they're #2 (I'm a Colts fan), but I'm afraid their dynasty of consistent regular-season domination is finally coming to an end (amid the Pats pursuit of a perfect season, a lot of people missed how the Colts broke the '85 Bears record for most wins in 5 seasons, with 12 or more wins every season since 2003).
Their division is getting tougher and tougher (toughest division in football, easily), and I dunno how long they can keep staying on top. I just wish they could've translated all these years of regular-season domination into more consistent playoff results.
#4 The Chargers, position-for-position, probably have the most talented roster in football.
#3 The Giants overachieved last season. Although I'm happy they upset the Patriots, don't get me wrong.
#2 The Bears are terrible. 2006 was pretty much a fluke for them. They were terrible in 2007, and they're gonna be terrible again in 2008. Apparently Lovie Smith and Jerry Angelo just don't know how to intelligently evaluate personnel, because they trade away crucial players like Bernard Berrian and Thomas Jones, delude themselves into banking on the vain hope that Devin Hester can become just as good of a receiver as a returner, and sign losers like Cedric Benson and Rex Grossman to new contracts.
I live in Maine, so everyone around here are die hard pats fans. I just laugh at them.
I really do believe that the chargers are going to do something this season, like make it to the superbowl. They have come so close, but never really could get it together. This year will be the year for them.
espn produces consistently bad preseason power rankings. especially at the mid-to-low end where most people pay less attention, but where all the real surprises come from.
anyway, my top 6 would probably be: chargers, cowboys, colts, pats, giants, steelers.
giants winning was kind of a fluke. chargers had some minor injuries to deal with in the playoffs. colts are about the same as they were. steelers are about the same. pats lost some players that they may not have replacements for yet. cowboys are about the same.
Top NFL Teams
1. Patriots
2. Colts
3. Chargers
4. Cowboys
5. Jaguars
6. Giants
No surprise the Patriots are No. 1 but the loss of Asante Samuel will be bigger than most are expecting in my opinion.
sexy rexy's ready to play.
