Anyone else liking the Cleveland Browns for Madden 09? In the past 48 hours they've resigned Derek Anderson, added Donte Stallworth to compliment Braylon Edwards & Kellen Winslow and also bulked up the defensive line by adding the very talented (although lazy) Shaun Rogers from Detroit and Corey Williams from Green Bay.
Cleveland is really making a push, and I can only imagine what it would feel like to be a Browns fan this offseason. The team is spending the money and really looking to improve for the next season. Plus, for anyone who even considered using the Browns in Madden 08, look out for Madden 09. The team will have 3 great receiving options, Jamal Anderson will likely have solid ratings, and Derek Anderson is going to be one of the 5 or 6 best QBs in the game.

he's going to be stupidly good the 1st half the season...they were such a close bid for the playoffs this year...they had it in their control but they went and lost to the bengals? i wanna say...and that loss put it in the hands of tenessee to determine the playoff bid.
just like cutler, bulger, palmer, brees, hasselbeck, roethlisberger, eli, and mcnabb were all better fantasy options the first 8 weeks this season, right?
brees didnt live up to the '06 season where he left off..eli never got hot till the end of the season (though he did have a couple good games), mcnabb just is never good it seems anymore~
#7 What does fantasy have to do with being rated better in Madden?
Some of you are too hung up on fantasy numbers. I'm a big fantasy guy, I play. But that's not how I evaluate players and talent in the real game (being that Madden draws their ratings from actual games, not fantasy points).
Eli will be rated higher because he won the superbowl MVP. I don't think he's better than Anderson, but I do believe he will be rated higher. If you don't think Brees will be rated higher than Anderson next season, you're crazy as well. McNabb has had troubles staying on the field, but he's produced when he has been. I'll be surprised if Anderson is rated higher.
Cutler is a good QB and a solid player. I think he's on the fence of being rated higher. Bulger has too much XP to be rated lower than Anderson. Palmer didn't have a great winning season, but he had a very effective QB'ing season. Hasselbeck will always be rated higher. Roethlisberger will most certainly be higher with the season he had.
I don't know why this is so hard to grasp. Anderson finished with an 80QB rating or so on the season. 80. There's a lot of potential there being it was his first season starting, but let's not jump out of our boots just yet. If he wants to be a top 5-10 QB, he'll have to perform better than he has. Even in the first 8 weeks, where he was really hot, he still bounced around like crazy. 65QB rating, 121, 57, 109, 59 -- and that was his best stretch of the season.
In fact, he only had a QB rating over 100 four times: Against Baltimore, STL, CIN, MIA. Not exactly the cream of the pass defensive crop. That's a bit troubling when you realize the Brownies only got to play 3* teams all season that were over a .500 record. And let's not get too tied up about how QB rating doesn't matter. It's a formula derived from many different aspects in the game, and is usually a very good indicator (ie: Brady has a great rating, vince young has a poor one).
Could he be great next season? Sure. He's got a lot of talent around him now. But let's not pretend like it will be some kind of dropoff next season if he doesn't. He's still a quarterback I target in fantasy drafts, but I would still take all of the QBs I listed in a real draft if age is of no concern. And I'll be surprised if he's rated higher than any of them.
I mean, let's think about this logically for a second: How are QBs rated in Madden?
Throw Accuracy: 27 QBs had a higher completion percentage than Anderson this season. He wont be especially high here.
Throw Power: 11 QBs threw and completed more passes over 40 yards. But he'll be good here.
Awareness: Anderson had the 4th most interceptions in the league (19), but few fumbles and sacks. He'll be decent here. Maybe a little better than average.
Speed: Derek Anderson is very slow, but he's probably better than the 56 speed he has now. I can see them maybe, maybe pushing him up to the high 60s to have him more usable in online play. But that's really stretch.
There's nothing really here that shows me he will be rated especially high in Madden. He'll be up there someway, but top 5 or 10 is a little crazy thinking in my opinion.
#5 has it. As long as jake doesn't mess up his elbow again. Smith should rebound quite nicely aslong as mohammed is solid and williams produces on the ground.

QBs who will be higher
McNabb
Manning #1
Manning #2
Brady
Roethlisberger
Romo
Favre
Hasselbeck
Garrard
Brees
Palmer
Bulger
Cutler (on the fence)
Madden-wise, Stallworth is a nice addition.
