14 attempts for 3 yards and a 0.2 yard average

this is what is known as a "shutdown"

4+ yard average and leaving early because of injury is not a shutdown

just so we are clear :o

He's talking about Adrian Peterson. 14 rushes for 3 yards. It was ugly ;)

I wonder how high Peterson will go in fantasy drafts next season. I imagine LT will still be the #1 RB taken. With people who went high this year that are under performing (LJ, Steven Jackson, Frank Gore, Shaun Alexander) could he go as high as 2? Would you take him over Joseph Addai?

i think the viking coaches are doing an amazing job with peterson, despite this last game but i havnt seen it yet so i dont know.
they are able to see the effects of what a lone-back rushing only offense can do to a player. all those players you mentioned, LJ, Steven Jackson, Frank Gore, Shaun Alexander, are practically crippled now after workhorse seasons. even LT and laurence maroney. you could say LT and steven jackson are somewhat back on pace, but i seriously consider that because their respective teams have been able to improve their pass games and set up the run better.

the vikings coaches have definately put together an interesting looking offense. tavaris jackson, a mobile-type qb in only his 2nd year, AP, a rookie, and chester taylor is only in his 6th season. not to mention bryant mckinnie, 6th season, and steve hutchinson, 7th season, are both going to be around for a while along with matt birk in his 10th seaosn.

the skill positions on offense including bobby wade in only his 5th and sydney rice a rookie at receiver are amazingly young and promising. especially considering the entire group is so young they can develop together and over the next few years they can probably get a few 1st round 0-liners that can learn from veterans birk and hutchinson and protect for jackson/peterson for 10 years

not to mention the defense is amazing, i think the vikings have the potential to be a juggernaut in the 2010's do i need to mention brad childress is a rookie, the guy that developed mcnabb and was offensive coordinator for the potent eagles offense that other than westbrook is no where to be found recently?

jump on the viking bandwagon now, you are already thinking someone who shares carries and only touches the ball 15 times a game and is a rookie deserves the #2 fantasy pick next year

#8 you make some good points, but I would still contend that a strong workhorse back can be very effective. It's important to have a solid secondary back, much how Dominac Rhodes spelled Edge in Indianapolis, but I would still rather have a stronger back on the field for 1st & 2nd down every time instead of having a passable backup.

Chester Taylor has done very well this season for Minnesota and he will likely continue to do so, as most defenses will key on the run more if Peterson is in the lineup.

I like the youth of Minnesota's offense and the direction the team is going. They've built smart with strong offensive and defensive lines and now have a very skilled running back. I just struggle to look at any team in the 2010's simply because you can't predict teams 1 season ahead in the NFL.

Bears, Broncos, Jets, Bengals, Ravens, 49ers - all were mentioned as potential playoff teams before the season started.

There's no sense discussing/arguing with that kid, Wildbill, he knows little to nothing about football.

#10 and if they continue drafting and trading/signing well theyll have depth in places that are the most important for rotations, o-line and d-line.

im not trying to say a strong workhorse back isnt effective. its just only effective for 2 maybe 3 seasons. larry johnson carried the ball 26 times a game for a 5.2 avg last season and two years ago shaun alexander carried the ball 23 times a game for a 5.1 avg, since then both players avg's have dropped to 3.8 and they are missing games after those kinds of seasons.
AP avgs 18 carries and taylor averages 12 carries, thats producing more rushes per game (and less rushes per player) behind an o-line thats already very good on a team that can afford to spend 1st round picks to improve the next couple years.

just look at how the 49ers were able to absolutely shutdown AP, and even hold taylor to 2~ yards a carry, yet being able to insert a fresh starter quality rb at the right time can lead to huge plays like taylors 84 yard td run

i see both of these running backs as starter quality running backs that could also be workhorses, they just happen to be splitting time. jerome bettis/willie parker rhodes/addai and strong defenses with efficient passing games are the similarities between the last two superbowl winners

#7... you're completely forgetting about brian westbrook. though i hate the eagles he is easily better than addai and would be MY #1 pick for rb.
#1 packers+phillies fan

#13 Addai is only in his second year. You can't really compare the two at this stage in Addai's career.

Regardless, I'd still pick LT over any other player in a fantasy league.
