The CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) is a filter pack specifically built for playing anime. It has been assembled by some of the most knowledgeable people in the anime world, and one of the primary design goals is to play as much as possible with as little as possible. This idea back fired, I'll stick to praising vlc instead of venturing outside the box.

#3 is right, actually.

That said, it's still a great codec pack, and not excessively bloated like most of the other popular packs. I use it. VLC is great, but doesn't always work with everything (has problems with matroska in particular). The CCCP takes care of anything else.

I understand that this pack started out being intended for anime fansubbing and DVD ripping groups, but now the pack has evolved into something that's great for anybody.

#18 You're clueless. They're saying that the pack is trying to be exactly the opposite of that. Other codec packs are shady and system invasive with sh*tons of obscure bloatware codecs. The CCCP is not.
