So many of us have been affected by some form of cancer in our lives; be it through family members, friends or co-workers, cancer is a disease which touches far too many of us. My grandfather (CBTS Red Baron) died of prostate cancer and now my uncle, and godfather, has lung cancer that has spread throughout his body. Jerome Chance’s grandfather passed away from lung cancer. We have recently discovered that CortanaV of the ACK Ladies had an uncle recently pass away from cancer. For our monthly charity event, we decided to give back to cancer research. We are donating the proceeds of the online tournament to the Cancer Foundation.

On Friday, February 1, 2008 The Girls of War will host an online Gears of War tournament beginning at 7pm Eastern time to raise money for The Cancer Foundation. The 4v4 tournament will be based on the Underground Gaming Series Official Rules and will only cost $20 per team. The fee is a minimum fee and those who wish to donate more, can on the registration site. Only the allocated $20 will be considered in the final pot for distribution to the winning team. The winning team will get 30% of the money raised from entry fees. We will donate the proceeds and any additional funds raised to The Cancer Foundation in time for Valentine’s Day.

From The Editor: This looks like a great chance for the gaming community to come together to help fight one of the largest killers across the world. If you have a group of friends that play Gears, I strongly recommend you join this tournament for the sake of everyone affected by this disease.
